Revival - Crash - Bang - Wallop

Allan, the Lola you referred to was in fact a Lotus 24. Better yet, Chris Smith who was cut out is expected to make a full recovery but it will take some time as he smashed up an ankle and tibia quite badly.

On the Merc front, weren't there two of these cars racing as well? After buyers fees etc the final tab came to £4,180,000. Someone told me this was a "barn" find?

Just been talking to someone who had a close study of the SSK and discovered its a rolling wreck with ultra-thin oxidised body panels. Nasty. Went to somebody in a 2-way phone battle - I wonder which country he was calling from? Something not 100% there........hmmmm

Also - the 1005 saga!!! Allegedly this was built around the remnants that were burnt to a cinder in Salt Walther's garage and the contents were bulldozed down a bank just above a river, as it was parked with his various speedboats etc. The 'bits' were excavated out ( shades of 'Time Team') and now they are a GT40. Just like that. I had an on-going correspodence with the archeologists when they found whatever it was they found. Hmmmm also...

The Yellow 40 when it was still brand new ...shot from LM Classic this year.

Ten years ago I saw a lovely white SSK on a sheep farm in Australia. It was brought to Australia, when new, for a race and then sold to a local (cheaper than shipping it back to Germany).

I don't know if this P1005 is the same car or not, but the last time I talked to George Cochran- yes the one we all know and love for his infamous headers scandal- he was working on a GT40 that had been burnt to a crisp and left behind a garage or filing station for years and years. The stories sure are similar if it isn't the same car. There was very little, if anything, left of the original according to him.

Hi Lynn
yes George had the car and was paid a substantial sum to make a new tub but I understand it did not get don by George
Regards
Chris.

Here is a photo of the weeds, mud, and rusted metal behind the Walther warehouse that has allegedly been "resurrected" into GT40 #1005. And didn't someone say that the chassis plate survived in good shape too? Truly amazing. If anyone needs proof of miracles, I guess this is it--if you believe any of the "resurrection" business, that is.

So is there a list of unaccounted cars anywhere, or are they all nicely tucked up in private collections?

That is a wonderful picture of 1005, but it had definately seen better days.

I have had a number of discussions with Ronnie Spain about his ambition to track down and photograph every one of the 108 original GT40s, but he admits he will probably end up seeing all 120......

(The 108 figure is approx - I have excluded the post production chassis, J-cars, H&M's and Safir's etc etc...)

How - how, is it possible to make a new car with this ?

I don't think so !

The "new" owner tells that the new P/1005 is a resurection ... he should have a very big faith !

I'm sorry to learn him that miracles doesn't exist.

All the best,

Danny
