Roaring Forties 66

Well, I've put near on 3000km on clock before Christmas and all is going well.
Only had it out once since then due to the monsoon hitting hard....
So while she was stuck in the shed, did a few upgrades.
The brake pedal was a little hard on low speed street driving, would have been fine for circuit work.
Decided to drop the master cylinder sizes as 99% of the time would be on the street. There was a break in the weather a few days ago and went for a spin, certainly improved the pedal pressure without a noticeable increase in travel.

Added some cork to the underside of the front chassis closure panel.
Fitted a stop on the gearbox to help with selecting 1st / 2nd from across the gate.
Gave it a once only and nothing has fallen off yet

One thing I noticed, was around 80kpm there was a wind noise (whistle) coming from the top of the door / roof area. Even though I had built up this area so the door seals made good contact all way round, it still made a slight sound. I hadn't fitted the eyebrows at this stage, so duly did and it stopped the whistle, but now there was a squeak.

In trying to keep my panel gaps as tight as possible, I didn't leave enough extra clearance around the eyebrows. Even though the gap is bigger there.
The edge of the door was rubbing against the mounting flange of the eyebrow.
Will have to trim back the door edges at some point, but not now.

Next on the list is carpets and floor insulation.

Sounds good Bob
I do have enough dynomat and cork tiles to finish off the floor, but always open for alternates.
Had to get in under the carpet of a modern car this week to mop up some rain that got in. Was amazed at how much underlay / deadener / separate mats there was. No wonder there is very little road noise in them.

Last weekend Michael took some more photos of the 40, this time in an underground carpark at night.
I never get tired of looking at GT40 pictures :D

First Friday of the month is the Chrome Bumper Cruise and thankfully there was a break in the weather for the first one this year.
Ford wise, there was XY GT's, Mustangs (unrestored GT500KR), Cortina, XB's and so on.
A few photos from the evening.

So Clayton, when will you be fitting the Chrome Bumpers!? Your car looks stunning sitting in that line up. Hard to believe its a 1960's design when compared to the more modern day machinery seen.

What is unique with the GT40 is it was not created to market to 1960's consumers - it was created to satisfy an extremely wealthy mans bruised ego.
That Cortina really catches my eye also.

Well Jimmy, if I had a MkIII I would have been fine, but I wont be fitting bumpers any time soon. Will just have to gate crash....
Yes they sure stand out against cars from the same era.

That Cortina really catches my eye also.
Ray
The owner of the Cortina also has a Lotus Cortina, RS2000, Mexico and Twincam Escorts :pepper:
I'm a bit inclined to Escorts myself, four wheel ones of course....

Has been awhile since the last update.
The middle of the year is the busiest for road trips / car shows and general outings.
Forgot to take the camera to some of these events, but did capture a couple.

The Motor Heritage day was a run down the track for lunch and was open to all clubs. It was great to see a heap of cars I hadn't seen before.

This year the 'All Ford Day' was incorporated with the Gazzanats and was the first show for the 40.
It was held at Hidden Valley raceway for the track events, burnouts, power slides etc......
There was some interesting cars there though. Have a look at the burnout Mini with a Holden V8 in it :stunned:
Plenty of methanol burning taxi's on hand....

Was lucky enough to take a couple of trophy's home.

Are they standard rear arches . or bigger ??

John.
They are the std width RF arches, but I lowered them by 50mm to cover the tyre. This did widen them a fraction to keep the curve.
If you look back through the build, there are pictures of how I did it.

A few weekends ago we took it for a blatt down the track and ended up at Manton Dam. This was the first time its been on the open highway for an extended period. When I say 'open highway' it's been limited at 130kph since 2007
As I've taken the eyebrows off due to some squeaks, the air noise got quite noticeable at 130. So time to fix them and put them back on.
Another source of noise was the floor. I still hadn't got around to sound deadening and carpeting it yet.....
Even with the air noise from the doors, the floor area was 3 decibels higher than head level....
So that's the next project.

And some pictures, because I can.....

I thought they looked better....... Like them ...

Great looking car. Have any vids of her performing? Thanks for sharing.
Charles
Thanks Charles
I did try out a GoPro in a few different positions to see what worked and to try my hand at editing.... This was done back in Oct last year and found that the wind noise was quite high. Bought an external mic and case to suit, but never got back around to shooting anymore video.

Will have to put that on the list again.

Its nothing special, but here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lxfluv7S-QE
