Carpet time...
First picture shows how its been for the last 12 months, just the painted aluminium floor.
I didn't want to glue / velcro or stud the carpets to the floor, but I didn't want it to slide around as well.
So I made a false floor that had 4mm clearance all way around the foot well and glued 6mm cork to the bottom of it. Left a 15mm edge so the carpet could wrap around and be glued underneath. The original floor then had Dyna matting added. Lastly the heel stop was wrapped in carpet.
The false floor is a snug fit and doesn't move at all, but can be removed for cleaning etc very easily.

The eyebrows were refitted and some teflon tape ordered to try under its lip.

Yesterday we took it down the track to Adelaide River for breakfast (100km south of Darwin)
Wow did that make a difference, it was quite civil at 130kph ish :thumbsup:
Very happy with the outcome.

So 13 years after she sat under the bare shell. I took my daughter to her year 12 graduation formal last night. Needless to say this has been booked in for many years :laugh:
Both made quite the entrance and she was stoked.

Yes, there was one or two raised eye brows...
But what was cool, one of the girls was dropped off in a Kenworth SAR. He even had stubbies and double pluggers, but she must have made him wear a shirt instead of the std blue singlet :stunned:

Yeah funny about that. All she wanted to do was run around and I made her crawl under the body work. It was much easier getting her into the 40 this time.

Finally got hold of a Lucas 608 mirror that didn't cost an arm and a leg...
Was going down the original route for mounting, but after playing around with the one that came with it. Made a slightly tapered base plate with threaded holes and glued and riveted it to the inner roof skin. As the skin is quite thin and flexible, before final riveting I injected a heap of scotch weld through the holes to stiffen up the panel. Worked a treat.

I’ve entered into this year’s Centre Nats held in Alice Springs. It’s a round trip of just over 3000kms. After doing a few test runs down the track, found it tram line a little too much and would have been tiring over that distance.
Solution was to reduce scrub radius and RF2 had a set of uprights that did that. So now was the time to upgrade the front suspension and mate their uprights with my existing arms.
First thing was to make a bracket to hold the hubs in their original position so the arms could be modified to meet the new ball joints.

With the new hub, rotor and upright held in place (steering arm was clamped to rotor to maintain the caster required).
Tack welded the ball joint socket to the A arm then filled in all the gaps.

Extended and beefed up the top arm around the ball joint area.
Bumped steered both sides and surprisingly they were close.
Shimmed the steering arm rod ends and all happy now.
New caliper mounts.

String lined and reset the front end.
Took it for a road test and feels much better now.

Nice work, great documentation on the post. I'm in the process of doing the same thing (shortening the scrub down to about 20mm from about 55mm) as well as looking to reduce the steering inclination angle, for improvements in the feel as well. Any details on the short testing you've done on what improved on the "feel"? Wondering if I can expect anything unexpected.

These uprights reduced scrub by a more compact rotor offset and increasing the steering inclination angle. The steering arms are longer than the originals and have slowed down the steering a bit. As it’s more of a street car, it’s now a bit lighter and nicer to drive.
The biggest change for me was the feedback through the steering wheel when one side hit a pothole. The car would pull to that side and required a correction (white knuckles at speed).
Tramlining has reduced, but still a bit there (could be the old tyres now).

I've got some very quick steering, and the tramlining is a problem for me on the street (not on the track). A 1" larger steering wheel helped a little, but I'm hoping the uprights provide some additional relief. I'm also thinking the static camber also brings the contact patch inboard toward the SIA as well.

After everyone was raving about the Red Centre Nats last year, we decided to take the GT40 on a road trip to Alice Springs. This is close to a 3100km round trip. Problem as you know we don’t have a boot, back seat or even a glove box, cue Dad and his F350. So we both entered the show and shine and I found my missing boot space.
We made it an easy two day trip, overnighting at Renner Springs (roughly half way). We caught up with Rod & Rita at Mataranka towing the Mad Max duo. At the same time we met two early Holden panel vans both driven by brothers on their L plates heading to Alice as well, how cool was that.
Apart from leap frogging the JSW truck loaded to the max with cars going to the RCN, it was an uneventful day (We stopped every 100 odd km’s to stretch).
The next morning was another early start with an easy cruise into Tennant Creek. Not too far south of Tennant the sky darkened and it started to rain. This just undid all of our hard work in cleaning the cars prior to leaving, not much we could do about it now. Devils Marbles was the next stop for photos and we saw the Hot 100 Sandman with the same idea.
We pushed on through the rain to Ti Tree where it cleared up somewhat. After a few more stretch stops we made it to Alice in one piece. Lots of cleaning was done that night for the Friday morning Scrutineering and pre judging.
Next event was the Friday night street parade. To call this massive was an understatement, with over 700 vehicles lined up at the show grounds for a round trip through the city centre. All of Alice must have turned up to line the streets. When we got back to the show grounds, there were cars still departing for their cruise. Saturday and Sunday was spent looking around the show and shine, taking in the driving events and generally having a great weekend. Lots of beautiful machinery on display and we were lucky enough to get into the pavilion with the GT40, even took home a trophy, very happy indeed. Parked next to us was a lovely eighty-year-old couple with their immaculate 1968 Toyota Corona Ute.
The trip home went just as smooth with only the speedo failing out of Alice. With the use of the GPS on the phone, we worked out what rpm was needed to keep us legal.
