Roush built 302

I've been offered a Roush built Ford 302 with a genuine 1970 Boss block. It has Roush aluminium heads, forged pistons, cam and roller rockers and steel rods. It has an anti-surge sump, aluminium Roush rocker covers, water pump pulleys etc. It has a dyno sheet showing 400 bhp. It came out of a Cobra Mk4(?)

Has anyone any idea what this is worth please?

So, so many variable to contend with here.

>first of all, we have to validate (for sure) that its an original '70 Boss block. Not trying to be negative Nancy, but why would anyone put aftermarket Windsor heads on a real Boss block? And there have been so many examples of fake Boss blocks and 302 blocks passing for Boss.

>So, if it IS a '70 Boss block, is it a VIN stamped original? Bored? Sleeved? Lots of factory 2nds (defects) hung around in old stock and were eventually sold as NOS replacement blocks. So, all these factors will play to the value.

>whats the current mileage, compression etc on the motor. Can it be installed as-is? Or does it have a checkered past and is on its last legs?

>My first reaction, is that its probably just worth the sum of its parts..

Assuming its a real Boss Block:
Good running, ready to install: $1,000 to $2,000 (usd)

Tired with miles and needs rebuild: $500 to $800

Now this is what I would expect here in the US. I have no idea what these are worth over in Europe/UK where they are even rarer.

Hard one this because you are buying it as a "runner", the true condition of it is unknown. Its a tidy few quids worth of bits according to the specs. I think with stuff like this you pay the money and take a chance . I would have thought that its a £3k engine over here.

This is not an apples to apples comparison, but this might give you more data. I have a Roush 302 based motor. It was a new (2008) "Roush 342R", based on a new 302 sportsman block with Alum Heads, Holley 4brl, 450 HP, 425tq.

I paid close to $9,000, it came in a crate with dyno sheets and a warranty. I hoped that by spending a little extra, I could avoid problems, so far so good.

I have 40,000+ miles on it and it runs great, no problems.
