SLC Coolant Tank Group Buy?

Do the math and you will find that given the expansion volume, total coolant capacity, length and diameter of hoses/bends, etc. you will need at least 2.5 pints volume (or close to that). Also use an overflow tank and the radiator cap on the expansion tank should be rated for 16-18 pounds. For track use, you may want to go as high as 20-21 pound cap, depending upon the temperatures that you see.
2.5 US pints = 1.25 quarts. That particular Moroso tank is only one-quart.

Alex -

Sorry for the slow response, I've been traveling all week. In addition to the difference in the volume of the tanks compare the tank fittings. The Moroso has two small fittings (1/4" and 1/2" NPT) while the custom tank has 4 (5/8" and 3/4" hose barbs, -4AN male, 1/4" NPT female).

The Moroso tank volume is ~143 cubic inches.
The custom tank volume is ~243 cubic inches.

Well, I have some good news and some bad news.......

The good news is that 2 of the tanks are finished and in my hands and they look amazing! Tanks are fabricated of 5052 aluminum, sheet aluminum was professionally formed and welded. They really turned out better than I had hoped.

So, what's the bad news.....the "forming" was unanticipated ;-(

Here's the cost breakdown -
Fittings (billet filler neck, 5/8" and 3/4" hose barbs, AN4 (female), 1/4" NPT) = $74.05/tank.
5052 aluminum, water jet cut = $43.40/tank.
Welding and forming - $105/tank.
Total cost = $222.45/tank + shipping.

Here's the other issue - I'm leaving town on Sunday for 3 weeks. So, while all of the tanks will be finished next week I won't be able to ship them until the end of the month. I know of at least one person who has a basically finished SLC and wanted a tank - if he's still interested I'll ship it tomorrow.

I apologize for the higher than anticipated cost - but the tanks really do look good!

Dave L

The price is still good with me. I'm leaving next week and won't be home until November. So if others need theirs first, thats ok with me. I can send payment while I'm away if you would like. Just let me know.

The tank looks good! I'm OK with the price and delayed delivery.

Will the tanks be pressure checked for leaks?

Spectacular work Dave! When it comes time to pull my transaxle, erm...I mean install the coolant tank, bring over your engine lift and we'll get it done :D

Dave: The tanks look good. I am curious about what you have done with the back side of the tank for mounting bosses, etc to allow attachment of the tank to the firewall. I haven't seen any pictures of the back side of the tank.

John -

Sorry for the slow response - I'm out of state at the moment. The back of the tank is flat. If buyers want to mount the tank off of the bulkhead my suggestion is to use a non-threaded stand-off. If you are insulating the bulkhead (either front and/or rear - I'm doing both) then I don't think stand-offs are needed. Tank mounting to the bulkhead is pretty basic - I plan to use 1/4-28 bolts with nylok nuts. You can drill your own holes in the mounting flange where you see fit, I don't see the need for more than 4.

Folks -

The tanks are finished and in my hands ready to be packaged and shipped. A number of you have already sent me your shipping info and I'll send PM's to those who haven't. I'll probably send them all UPS unless another method is requested. Again, cost is $222.45 plus shipping. Payment by personal check or PayPal is fine. I'll send out PM's a bit later.

At this point I think I have one or two extra tanks - if you're interested in one and haven't contacted me yet please let me know asap.

Thanks!
Dave L

Did you earmark one for me? I can either pick it up, or you can come out to see the disaster I've made of my garage. :D
