Keith, More Global Cooling/Warming/Change hoax thread is one of the most popular threads on this site with over 101k of hits. The site says "enter at your own risk". If you want to ban me, fine, but don't punish everyone else.

I will open it if you respond to posts in an adult fashion and keep on the topic. I agree, this topic affects us all but circular arguments, tub thumping politics and sarcasm do not belong.

Please remember, the actions I take are for the benefit of the site NOT from any personal viewpoint. I am not a political animal and have no strong views about anything in particular but I am willing to read and learn.

"Following a rise in heated rhetoric and subsequent complaints, political propaganda and politically motivated inflammatory threads will be removed until further notice. "

Thank you, thank you Keith!

What I really don't understand is, if people are offended by what is in the threads, why do they disregard the warning ( Enter at your own risk.) and go into the Paddock? No one is holding a gun to their heads. People share different points of view, most of the post on the Paddock are of a political nature, there's bound to be opposing views. If it's to the Left, is it OK? If it's to the right, is it OK? If it mentions Obama or Cameron, or any other leader, is it forbidden? This is approaching something dark.

People aren't offended. They're bored shitless.

What is dark Al is your train of thought. This is a car forum with a section for non car subjects - the Paddock. Naturally, politics will enter into various subjects but a limit has been imposed because of the amount of pure ranting by no more than half dozen people and all on the subject of whether or not or how much you hate Barack Obama, Liberals and Kalifornia.

It's boring, it's repetitive and it is plainly insulting the intelligence of many that come here for a bit of R and R.

I was advised by those on high that ALL politics, Religion and conversations about guns should be banned. I argued on behalf of the Paddock faithful that we could be trusted to keep a lid on it, Well we haven't so rules have been introduced to limit the nonsense. If that doesn't work there will be a blanket ban full stop.

If you are unhappy with your Government Al,write to them, join a political forum, write to the White House or better still, become an elected representative and go sit in Government, Any of that would be better and more appropriate than cutting and pasting inflammatory political propaganda and flinging it up here in the hope that someone will bite.

'Bored Shitless' Yes Mike, totally, I was just being polite. And now you're wondering how I can answer your post before actually reading it on the forum.. :)

And no it wasn't through the edit function...

Listen Guys,
I think I speak for MORE than most on this side of the pond.
We are bored shitless with the almost junior school puerile crap that goes on.
Keith is taking the right course. As he has stated.
Too many threads, that could lead somewhere worthwhile, are regularly
' highjacked ' by too few , regularly. twisted, turned & regularly , no... sorry,
always, despite our efforts, descend into banal, stereotypical,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I'm with this on Keith.
Thanks Keef..

Forgot to add,

When we the last time that UK politics.. gun control,.. mass shootings, etc
took up 10% of the bandwidth ( & free Moderator's time ) that is almost
hourly expended on here, relating to US political jokers.
We have enough here already.

Completely agree. Make this place about jokes and comraderie, not vitriol.
Hell I've read more of the site in the last two days than in a long while.

You stated ' site '.
Was it a simple typo...as in ' shite ' ?

Not aimed at anyone in particular.
You know,,,PC crap...

Only a guess on my part, but Jeff might have meant--- Hell I've read more ( off ) the site in the last two days..... gotta say there has been zip on the other sites I visit...don't know whether that is due to mods deleting stuff or the others are actually working/fixing cars etc and don't have time for thrashing their respective keyboards to fill the day in!

Waaaaaaaay back in the stone age of computer messaging boards and prior to their being an Internet, we ran Bulletin Boards that you would dial into with your 300-1200-2400 baud modems (and others faster, but very pricey).
I ran a FIDO bulletin board and later switched to OPUS as the technology matured.
We had forums where we could share common interests with each other...
Very quickly it became apparent that even the relatively learned and sophisticated users of this technology in 1982 had to be given ground rules. There were Flame Wars in some of the message boards that escalated beyond the cyber world and people were actually meeting in person to slug it out!
WTH you say - were they nuts?
Those of us who were BBS SysOps (Bulletin Board System Operators) started meeting with each other to establish ground rules.
One of the very first rules was -
DON'T BE TOO ANNOYING & DON'T BE EASILY ANNOYED.
We universally recognized that these sophisticated users were also very opinionated and were going to be a real challenge to manage.
As owners of our BBS technology, the phome line, etc., we determined that people's rights as established by the Constitution of the United States, was null and void in our multi-national new "Cyber world". We became dictators - some more benevolent than others.
We laid down the rules and if you didn't like them, you were free to start your own BBS or dial into someone elses.
Where am I going with all this?
Not a heck of a lot has changed in the last 35+ years.
Except -
Users are for the most part, not exceptionally technically sophisticated as the medium and tools to use it have taken he place of that required sophistication.

This is Ron's house.
You have no rights here that were not given to you by Ron.
You play by Ron's rules and if you don't like them - you're free to go elsewhere.
While I don't want to really tick anyone off here, I would suggest that you go back to the foundational rules of FidoNet as stated above -
DON'T BE TOO ANNOYING & DON'T BE EASILY ANNOYED!

Threads being closed, locked, edited, moderated or forbidden? SO?
I don't know what you expected, but you may need to adjust those expectations.

Bottom line is -
We all have at least one thing in common. The GT40 and other cars of the era make our hearts race and are very pleasing to us in a number of ways. When you find yourself at odds in opinion with another member here - please remember your roots and celebrate them.
Thanks.

I support Keith's action.

Why is it a surprise that if you constantly sow weeds in a paddock the farmer eventually gets out the glyphosate?

Tim.

I think you'll find that it isn't the "International Conservatives" complaining about this problem.

I'm sorry that I started a thread which brings so many views to this sites table.
