I was born before:

Man had notyetinvented:

'air conditioners
'dishwashers
'clothes dryers
'and the clotheswere hung out to dryin the fresh air and
' man hadn't yetwalked on the moon

Until I was 25, I called every manolder than me, "Sir."

And after I turned 25, I still calledpolicemen and every man
Witha title, "Sir."

We were before gay-rights,computer-dating, dual careers,daycare centers, and group therapy.

Our lives were governed by the TenCommandments, good judgment, and common sense.

We were taught to know thedifference between right and
Wrongand to stand up and take responsibilityfor our actions.

Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was
A bigger privilege.

We thought fast food was what peopleate during Lent.

Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with
Your cousins.

Draft dodgers were those who closed frontdoors as the
Evening breeze started..

Time-sharing meant time the familyspent together in the
Eveningsand weekends not purchasingcondominiums.

We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CD's, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.

We listened to Big Bands, Jack Benny,and the President's speeches on our Wireless (radios).

If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan 'on it, it was junk.

The term 'making out' referred to howyou did on your school exam.

Pizza Hut, McDonald's,and instant coffee were unheard of.

We had 5 &10-cent (5 and dime) stores where youcould actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents.

Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar,and a Pepsi were all a nickel.

And if you didn't want to splurge, you couldspend your nickel on enough stamps to mail 1 letterand 2 postcards.

You could buy a new Ford Coupe for $600,but who could
Afford one? Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.

In my day:

'"grass"was mowed,
'"coke" was a cold drink,
'"pot" was something yourmother cooked in and
'"rock music" wasyour grandmother's lullaby.
'"Aids" werehelpers in the Principal's office,
'"chip" meanta piece of wood,
'"hardware"was found in a hardware store and.
' "software" wasn't even a word.

We were the last generation toactually believe that a lady neededa husband to have a baby.

We volunteered to protect our precious country.

No wonder people call us "old and confused" and say there is a generation gap.

In 1902, the first modern electrical air conditioning unit was invented by Willis Carrier in Buffalo, New York. So that would make you 112????
I wouldn't have guessed a day over 90...

Hi Veek, for the purposes of this quiz, do you suppose domestic aircon was a feature in American homes from which date? I accept that it was possibly commercially available from the date you mention but I'm not at all sure they had downsized it to domestic proportions for quite a few years.

If you are correct and it was widely available domestically from that time, then that should be disregarded. There may be more quirks but lets see where we get to. Your guess is 'quite a bit ou't but dependent on the aircon clarification.

So you're not 112?

1931 H.H. Schultz and J.Q. Sherman invent an individual room air conditioner that sits on a window ledge—a design that's been ubiquitous in apartment buildings ever since. They went on sale in 1932. Age 82?

In 1939 Packard invents the coolest ride in town: the first air-conditioned car. To turn it off, you opened the hood and disconnected the compressor belt.

I must have been a year off on the age guess. The first presidential radio address was 1925 by Calvin Coolidge. So are you 89?

The first public broadcast of television was in 1929 by the BBC from their new television studios in Crystal Palace, London. So are you 85?

I'm obviously pulling your leg here as this list has been making the rounds in various forms for years. Some of the items have been debunked as to their age. Penicillin invented in 1928, Clarence Birdseye introduced frozen food to the American public in 1929 etc.

I'm 70 and can relate to all of that. You could even get glued to the radio listening to the Shadow, letting your imagination go wild. Or laugh with Amos and Andy. When kids could go outside without a toy and play all day long.
