Why not a 351 Windsor in at GT40

I have noticed that most guys use a 302 based engine for their cars. Any reason why you wouldn't take advantage of the cubes a 351 offers? I know the headers would be affected. Fran, do you offer a modified set of snakes for a 351? I know you are reading this Fran.... :) Is authenticity the other main reason?

no matter how authentic you make it, It's still a replica, go for the cube's 351 stroker 408, 427 have some fun, Kill some tires :)

There are a few of us with Windsors. Here is mine. Bored, stroked and internally balanced at 392ci..

Ok, how much? I can tell I'm going to be shocked! I ask because I have a 351 tucked away in my garage. How much HP can a G50 handle?

I think it's safe to say that the vast majority of Superformance GT40s have 427 Windsors in them, almost all made by Roush.

G50 transaxles can handle 475-500 hp easily...the later ones will hold much more..my 6 speed unit in the 01 race car has taken 600hp of abuse on track with slicks without issue.
You can cal me or a quote on headers with you choice of ss or mild steel but there is a thread already running.. http://www.gt40s.com/forum/gt40-tech-engines-induction-exhaust/36714-header-prices.html

Alan, do the headers in ALL SPF cars all look like Mk2 square style bends from memory...even the Mk1 cars...correct?

I don't recall from my own experience; all I can speak for is the FE headers I have now which to my eye look more or less like real Mk II headers (minus the joint in the one vertical section that the real ones have).

Here is a picture of the 302 from Lynn Miner's car P2133 which I assume is using standard SBF headers:

Here are the SPF FE headers on Steve C's P2125

Thats a pretty looking engine bay Tim...

Alan the headers you show are both Mk2 style...the Mk1 is more flowing with sweeping curved pipes and less of a squared off look....as we supply to the 302 based Mk1 cars...

yes...and like these RCR headers for 302 based engines..

I'll stick with the 347... I just read the header post.

Jim, you might want to consider a 331 instead of a 347. Apparently the lower piston ring on a 347 is just about coming out of the bottom of the piston bore....and the rod angles are starting to get pretty extreme in the 347 too. Just a thought. A well designed and built 331 will crank out 400+ hp/tq, which is loads of power in a car weighing sub-3,000lbs.....
