ZF Transmission temperature gauge

Where would one install a 1/8" NPT temperature gauge sensor on a ZF transaxle?

I am wondering if there is plug already there for that purpose? I don't want to drill and tap a new hole.

My initial thought was to use the drain plug which was added when configured for GT 40 use, likely with an adapter to match the size.

As long as the sensor itself is immersed in the oil, it would work just fine. Don't forget that electronic sensors generally need to be well grounded through their threads. IE - don't put thread sealant on the full depth of the threads.

If the transaxle was inverted for GT40 use then what was the vent in the Panterra orientation could be used as most add a separate fill plug. IMO a temp gauge is just a distraction, if you think you are going to run hot enough to have an issue then an oil cooler is likely required. That said I know folks running Pantera's at Silver State in the +150MPH class for 93 miles who have no issue with ZF oil temps.
