Aluminium fabrication required

Hi all

I am looking for a company or individual to help me with part of my build. I have 2 aluminium lids and 2 aluminium panels that need some cutting doing.

The lids require some rounded corners and the panels need 2 sections to be cut out again with rounded corners. I would do this myself but I want the corners & edges to be perfect and don't think I'll do a very good job.

Here is a picture of one of the lids that needs cutting:

I am based in Warwickshire so if anyone knows of anywhere/anyone in the area that can help that would be great

A bit of an off-centre answer.

I have a sign manufacturing shop, and regularly machine out this sort of job on my CNC flatbed mill. 4ft x 4ft, and have done up to 32mm thick alloy for gaskets, adapters, brackets, mounts etc.

Could be worth ringing around local sign businesses to see if any of them have a bit of petrol in the blood and are willing to help you out.

Would be a 20 minute job if you walked in my door, but the air fares would be killing.:laugh:

What you’re asking for is very basic fabrication and you should be treating this as part of your learning curve on the car.<o></o>

A few key points that may be of use:<o></o>

• Practice on scraps until you feel confident on the actual parts<o></o>
• Accurately mark the radius with a scriber<o></o>
• For the external radius cut roughly to shape with tin snips or a jigsaw<o></o>
• For the internal radius cut roughly to shape by chain drilling or a jigsaw<o></o>
• Finish with either a hand file or a powered rotary burr (sanding bobbin)<o></o>

It may take a little longer, but you’ll get more satisfaction out of your build. I’ve just build my own exhaust system, never done one before and I can now proudly say I did that!<o></o>

A friend of mine is based just outside Stratford on Avon and builds Dragsters and Hot Rods mainly. His fabrication skills are awesome.

This job would be a doddle for him if his schedule allows him the time to fit you in.

Check for anyone with a water jet, that is short work for a cnc abrasive water jet cutter.

I've done some practice curves using a jigsaw and file and know I could probably do a reasonable job myself but I'd rather trust someone else to get a better finish.

Going to try Marks guy in Stratford-upon-avon as he is just up the road and sounds like he knows what he's doing. Panels due to go to him next week so I'll keep you posted on the results
