SLC 36 Cam's Build

Great to see your SLC on the track for the first time! Sounds real nice, great acceleration. Hopefully, more great videos to follow!

Two of the cars on my wish list in one picture!

mmmmm....S2000

Cam,

The car ls looking GREAT! Do you plan to track it alot or will it be more of a street car?

Greg,

The shop where my Pantera is being stored for the winter has an absolutely perfect S2000 for sale.
It has very low mileage and has never seen rain! It looks like it is 100% perfect! It is light blue/silver and has a gorgeous dark blue leather interior.

Yeah, gotta finish college first and start making some money. It's gonna be the first car I look to buy, a nice 2004-2005, with the 2.2L before they put in the traction control and drive-by-wire throttle.

Originally I wanted a street car to bring to the track every now and then but I'm hooked. Although i think the stock SLC is a pretty good track car. A few observations from the day.

1. The LS376 will throw the car around like a rag doll if you let it. I can't imagine 700 to 800 HP in this car, it'd be a handful.

2. When the Nittos get warm, the car is crazy stuck. I've been farting around on my s-curves and with the Nittos cold the tail wants to flick with oversteer. That's all gone when they are warm, very little under or oversteer.

3. I gave a ride to a 20 year track vet who had a Cayman. He said " I was pulling corners that would have thrown 911's spinning into the grass".

4. The Ricardo is amazing for the track. The 3.42 rear end pulls forever in 4th. On short straights, I'd be pulling in 1 gear and hear cars next to me up and downshifting several times.

5. There is very little lift throttle steering. My 911 would steer with the gas, lift throttle oversteer was something to watch for. I was worried it'd be even worse in this car and i had a hard time even creating the situation.

5. I've got no sway bars but didn't feel a need for them. Again, I'm no track professional but this frame is so tight with no bushing, solid motor mounts, it doens't give. There were a few potholes on the track so had to watch bouncing off the track tho.

6. Wilwood brakes were good, but i wouldn't say great. I don't mind, actually love, manual brakes but there were several corners where i could have made up some time. I adjusted the balance bar 3x, it's almost at the end of it's rails. I had very little brake dust in the front, tons in the rear, so i think ive got an issue. I bleed the front with an extra pint so it's not that they don't pump up. I also screwed the piston down in the front MC around 2 threads from equal, to favor the fronts, still no improvement. Any ideas?

7. I think the tail may be a little too aggressive and makig the front light at speed. I'll try to change the angle next time.

8. I've got interfecne on 2 wheel wells RF, LR. The 19's in the back don't leave alot of gap. I get no rubbing with just me in the car but if someone heavy is in the passenger seat, i have to take my lefts a little careful. I'll keep trimming FG. Also, I need to change a few things in the suspension, more on this later.

9. This car is a thing of beauty on the track. It draws crowds. I think that pisses of the 911GT3 crowd after they paid 2 to 3x more. Oh, that S2000, bye bye!

One more shot on the track...

1 - How about 900hp? =)

8 - The CCWs are calling youuuuuuuuuuu. just think, you'd save around 30lbs per corner in terms of rotational weight. That's huge.

Thanks for the write up Cam. Have you driven it on the street at all?
Yup. I've had a tag since mid December. It's amazing on the highway. I'm not used to cruising in 2nd. Still haven't got it into 6th for very long. it just bogs under 100mph. I plugged the gear ratios into this calcualtor and should be good to 230+mph. Although i won't be in the car when that happens!

Put this in another thread but i figured i's cut and paste here. For the rear window, I countersunk holes and used flathead 10/32 nylon screws, about every foot. Not a crack or problem yet.
I ran 3M fineline tape around the edge of the polycarb, then the edge of the f/g adjacent. then used black silicon caulk, smoothed, then pulled up fine line tape and it looks factory.

I was getting some creaking out of my balljoints. i took out the stacked washers and added an SAE grade 8, 1/2-20 nuts below the castle nut. this tightened it up and also means 9 threads are re-inforcing the balljoint now.

Whoops, forgot to attach pic.

1100+ cars, the crowd around the SLC was amazing. They were 3 deep at times. The draw to this car is out of control!

There were a pair of sweet 458's there. The Lambo isle must have been 20 deep. Only 1 SLC!

Got invited to a car show at the local Lear rental. I think i found a guy that will trade rides in the SLC for time in the a lear. Hmmm, this could be a nice fringe benefit!
