SLC 36 Cam's Build

Alex,

We can actually drive 365 days per year here in Texas! Your driving season is about 1/10 of that.....

Cam,

Great to see you car on the road, looking and sounding strong. I'm still waiting for my shop to be finished, agonizing as I watch everyone's progress. How are your track days going?

It drives people nuts to not know what the car is. I was signing up at the TMS Creson track 100 miles away. I had to send pictures. The guy thats running the track day said he'd had an identical photo forwarded to him from a friend Denton asking him to "Please ID this car!"

It's also because the car looks like it is a super car, or they wouldn't care.

At Cars and Coffee, the Momentum Race group has adopted me. I thinkit's cuz of the LS3 similar to their SCCA car. They say I'm a good draw, so i don't have to get up at 0 dark:30 to get a spot, they just lift up the cones. Another nice feature of the SLC, you can sleep in!

It also brings people to their display.

With all the attention you're getting it's amazing you still talk to us 'little people'! You can tell things are always bigger in Texas, dragging a big rig and pro level trailer to a C and C?

Great fun - someday if the rest of us get moving maybe you will have some company.

All hail King Kam

I forgot to put a plug in for the Driveshaft Shop in NC. Frank Rehak is great to work with.

I had the wrong adapter on my 1/2 shafts for the Ricardo. He turned it around next day and fedexed it back. Great to work with! The Driveshaft Shop | Kit Cars / Diff Kits / Misc. Parts

Only down 3 days! Blurry pic with the right adapter.

Nice bracket to keep heat off the CVs.

Have you considered using gold foil, the lava stuff or similar heat shielding material for it?

Was the heat shield part of the original build, or was it a product of toasty CVs?

Turns out useful for a few reasons. Hopefully keeps the CV grease and boot from being cooked by the cats. Also makes a great grease catcher so CV grease doesn't spray on the back window/clip!

I added them when around the time of engine start when the cats were getting red hot. since i've gotten an ecu tune, they haven't gotten that hot but can't hurt.

I had a ½” border for the headlight covers and it looked too thin, so I went 1 3/8” thick. Might have gone too far. I think ¾ to 1” maybe best. If you’re blacking them out it just doesn’t matter.

I tapped a dozen 1" 8/32's nylon flatheads right into the F/G. Countersunk the lexans. put 1/8" insulation under the black border to keep the F/G from scratching off the border paint. on the remaining threads on the inside of the clip i've attacehed 3mil poly sheet to keep the road junk out. Plus siliconed up the gaps around the hedlights.

IMO, on the SL-C a 3/4" border looks best. I used some black electrical tape to find the best appearing width before any paint went on.

Working on A/C. Pretty much llike open heart surgury. Take out dash, windshield, drop steering column. I was down for 2 week not driving Aghhh~!

I decided to put in the gen 2 mini from Vintage air on a 45 deg angle. there was about 1/8" clearance with it parallel to the front of the dash. At 45 degs, it gives more clearance for the ducts under the dash. that way they won't collapse with the dash forcing down on them. it also swivels much of the a/c unit further down the footbox. i did lose a little strength in the upper foot box cutting the monting hole but will Tig in some Al angle.

Also, a drive-ability suggestion for anyone with a Ricardo. In an earlier blog alex mentioned ARP fastenrs and washer for the internal axle retaining bolts. i should've listened. (I'm glad i didn't listern to the whole carb argument tho!)
If you go on the ford gt blogs they are known to shear driven hard.
It wasnt fun shearing mine, the half shaft becomes a rotating weapon. plus youre found on road dead. It was the best $160 i spent adding those bolts/washers. They haven't sheared in the last 2000 miles...

Thrilled to see you found a workable solution. How much does it encroach on the passenger footwell?

Fran, do you have any pictures of the current system installed in a car? Trying to figure out how it looks upon completion.
