The perfect quote - political in nature

Sorry Nick, you got me there. I can only find 4 columns on Prada and even that's in the New York Times mate.

http://topics.nytimes.com/PRADA/index.html

Pray elucidate...

Keith,

You obviously do not get the 5th columnist special Bob / comrades only edition. ;)

Sorry, meant to add, isn't it a bit gay of you guys reading about Mrs Prada's handbags?

No offence of course, whatever floats your respective boats...

Well there are a lot of "handbags at dawn" episodes on here. :)

Well keith although I think you're full of shit

I do not concur, in fact the complete opposite. We are all full of shit, Keith does seem to have mastered the art (a few more of us could do with lerning), of smelling his own shit when necessary.

My shit of course always sells of roses, to me :)

Mark, thank you for steering the inevitable rhetoric in a more intellectual direction..

My recently acquired fan, Mr Automaniac, seems to be the current expert in scatology, so I will nominate him for a suitable reply to your intriguing question.

In order to get the Nobel Prize, you must exhibit a gift for being so compassionate towards others, that you are compelled to take money from some who work and give it to others that don't work. Argentina and Venezuela are examples of very compassionate countries.

I see some merit in the original post, but only in the area of the feeling that we've lost something in the last 30 years that may never come back. I struggle almost daily with what I see as a lack of consideration for people and things other than ourselves. In my utopian youth, I observed our country as it demonstrated a "general" consideration of others, be it compensation, volunteerism, community service, etc, where money was important for the necessities, but it had a much less significant roll in how one behaved than it does now. In today's world, it appears that the acquisition of money or power is the single focus in life, and nothing else matters. Yeah, this was true in the past, but along with desire to acquire, came a "partner" call ethics and decency. Today, that "partner" is no longer present.

Another problem today is one side sees the other side as "they're taking something away from me", and will fabricate or exaggerate any defense possible to justify that feeling. This is difficult for me to watch is happen, in that I'm probably considered the "old white traditional" guy that is tired of hearing everybody whine about how someone's pocket is being picked. It was picked in the past, as it will in the future. But today, the tolerance for it is non-existent, even though we still thrived in that environment in the past, and will continue to in the future. I guess this is why the Republican candidate did not appeal to me this year. I saw him sway back and forth (more so than the other) to whatever his audience wanted to hear, and his lack of of empathy for anybody that was different (socio-economically). I guess I'm the fool who is still looking for what we had in the past, even though it may never come back.

So yes, our leaders are a reflection of us, and when we have idiots pushed to the front (by a very narrowly focused and powerful group of individuals) because of a distorted picture of who they are, then we (the electorate) are at fault for not separating the reality from the "show". My god, look at the money spent in this last election. That itself should tell volumes about where our priorities lie. We bitch and moan about four deaths at a consulate, yet don't give a moment's notice to the daily casualties in an unnecessary war. We are truly "lost".

Selfish people who only care about themselves, seldom win humanitarian awards. That's a fact Jack!

Then how the hell did Obama win

Terry,

Sorry your thoughtful comment got lost in the "crap".

I think you have hit the problem on the head. I'm afraid that much of the problem can be laid at the feet of Fox style hate programming. They daily turn small issues into big deals and gullible people (you do not know who you are) believe them.

Jim the fact that you so freely call out Fox News and their viewers as the enemy or problem clearly shows the issue exists on both sides. Unfortunately I don't think many politicians run for the good of their country anymore and that is a sad commentary on both parties. If you think Fox has a corner on "hate" programming what do you call all the various news organizations that compared Bush to Hitler or the colorful descriptions Bill Maher had for various republican women? I've said it before unless both sides can get past the superiority crap we have no hope of correcting the very real issues we face

Tim,

Fox, MSNBC and the other one sided information services are all to blame. The difference is, nobody watches MSNBC. Fox and the other right wing one sided entertainment shows have a huge audience. It's easy to tell what the latest Fox one sided attacks are targeting this week, because the good sheep immediately bring it here, just like it was true!

Some good examples of things Fox decided are a problem:

The ground zero Mosque
Teachers Unions
NPR
Planned parenthood
The war on Christmas
Minorities
Higher Education
Early Voting
There are many many more, but you alrady know that
And now its the Bengazi attack......................

Its very easy to tell the latest Fox non-sense, because all the sheep here on our forum suddenly start caring about something odd, all at the same time and start posting.

This does not happen on the left, no one post the latest Oberman rant, no one posts the latest Rachel Maddow rant, do they?

There is a very good reason for that, Liberals tend to be smarter, better educated and can see the rants for what they are, one sided bullshit

Unfortunaly, the right wingers appear to be unable to tell what is important and what is true and what is bullshit, so they just believe what their handelers at Fox tell them.

That is why Fox is the problem!

Check out what's happening as we speak in France, and it doesn't look too good.

The problem (as we all know) that if political extremes on the one wing are to be instigated in this day and age, it will spring a lurch to the other extreme following the laws of physics. France is very good at that 'bounce' but extremes are NOT the answer.

Western nations need to find the middle ground for a group hug.

I concur that The Telegraph is a right of centre newspaper but not usually given to rhetoric, however, Nick will put me right (!) I'm quite sure :)

Anyhow, have a read.
