Sorry to say it chaps but you are all being PC. I have read all these posts and not one referred to the real problem Muslim's. Keith got close by referring to the elephant in the room.
Other cultures, bullshit. Hindus are not offended by the Queens uniform nor are Buddists, Seiks, Christians, Mormans, Jews and Atheists. Until we all start calling a spade a spade this bullshit by Muslims will continue.

Would just like to put the record straight. It isn't "political correctness" necessarily that prevents plain speaking, but inciting racial hatred is a criminal offence here in the UK. There are of course varying degrees of same, but given that eggshells seem to be the floor covering of choice, I personally would choose to tread carefully rather than take the risk.

Speaking of "P.C." and "(living) in strange times":
There's been in recent years a dedicated, 'p.c.-based' campaign by the media and the faaar left (But I repeat myself [- Mark Twain]) to find s-o-m-e-t-h-i-n-g "offensive" (read that: non "p.c.") in anything anyone on the other side says or does - even if the left has to twist & spin like crazy to come up with it. They'll then hound the stuffings out of said person demanding he issue an 'apology' for having said/done what the left/media themselves made up and now insist was said/done. (Over here we refer to these yo-yos as "the thought police".) It's all about marginalizing/intimidating/silencing anyone who has the GALL to oppose the left's narrative regarding anything. The left invented "p.c." as a tool to aid them in that pursuit...and until recently, it's been very effective. "P.C." = the liberal narrative...plain and simple.
But, the main tactic here is this whole "OFFENDING" thing. These days, no one is allowed to say ANYTHING the left considers "offensive" to them...'anything that doesn't 'toe the lefty's line'. One does so at his own pearl. That's especially true for politicians....even MORE SO for conservative politicians. All politicians q-u-a-k-e at the very THOUGHT of "offending" someone...but it's conservative politicians who fear the LEFTY media will drag them thru the mud over it. That's one of the reasons congress has been paralyzed for as long as it has.

There is always more to a story but for arguments sake, taking all this as "true" - Seems as though some of the patient inventory may have issues with the country (servicemen are part of a country) they are in, if so they should leave or be asked to leave (the country) and leave the man serving sitting right were he pleases.
Its sad that the staff get to deal with the potential problem as its not their problem either.

Somewhere it most certainly exists. And the rest of us arn't privy to what's IN IT until we've committed one of the offensive acts.
E.g.: Until a CONSERVATIVE politician over here described Obama as being "articulate", not one white person in 300 million over here knew that was supposedly a long-standing racial slur. In this case, it's supposedly 'code' for "Obama is articulate...for a BLACK person."
Can you imagine? One HAD to have worked real hard to come up with that one.

I've had a response from the head honcho at the hospital in question as, I'm sure, have many of you who also fired off an email. The reply is interesting. It says a lot, and yet it says nothing at all, in the same sentence.
Here it is in full:
"Dear Keith Hardy,
Thank you for your recent comments about the circumstances surrounding a member of the armed forces who was treated recently at Margate A&E. We would like to respond to your feedback with an explanation from the Trust.
The tabloid coverage of this story sought to suggest that the sergeant concerned was asked to move because his uniform might offend staff or other patients. In fact, the member of NHS staff who offered the sergeant an opportunity to move into the main A&E department rather than remain in the waiting room was acting in good faith and was simply trying to be kind and helpful to the patient. A few days earlier the member of staff had witnessed an incident in which some unruly members of the public had abused a member of the military in the A&E waiting room. The member of staff, acting on their initiative, was trying to be kind and helpful to the military patient and wanted to ensure he was not subject to any similar abuse.
We have apologised publicly for any embarrassment this incident may have caused. The Trust is absolutely clear that members of Her Majesty’s armed forces, whether in uniform or not, should not be treated any differently to any other person. We have made this point clear to all our members of staff and are seeking to make sure that this never happens again.
Media coverage that misinterprets the good intentions of NHS staff is always unfortunate. It is doubly unfortunate when, as in this case, it leads to abusive and threatening calls being made to NHS staff.
