917 engine options

If 40k for a rocking 911 engine is expensive...imagaine two of them joined together....ouch!!!!

That motor cost $55k to build. If you were to plan on a back to back porsche deal you would be daft to use these as donors, a couple of late model injected motors retro fitted with carbs etc would look the part & probably scare the pants of most people, although if you like one Canadian gent I know you probably think there is no such thing as enough HP.
Problem is I have all these pics of his car dissappearing of the track in a shower of 's**t', must be the alzheimers kickin in!

The last 911 engines that were carb'd when they left the factory were 2.4ltr engines in '72 and '73 - very modest hp/trq. You can put tripple throat IDAs on a 3.0/3.2 pretty easily and with an appropriate cam you can get 240-250hp, still not a lot. If you put on twin plug heads with a higher compression ratio and a bigger piston/cylinder kit (3.4-3.8) you can get into the 300-340hp, still not a ton of hp (but quite expensive ~ $10K-20K depending).

Yes,

Fran is correct. I run my 964 3.6 litre with a set of PMOs in the 917. Fantastic quality.

GT.

Is it a lot of work to convert it over to the PMOs? They sure do look purrrrrrrty on their website, and I really love anything that isn't computer controlled :D

A pair of 914-4's end-to-end with the coupler staggering the crank rotation by 90 degrees? May not take up quite so much real estate and would sound VERY nice while delivering a very respectable amount of power. Need more? Throw in a pair of hair-dryers...

You can find these cars on Craig's List with engines intact and bodies busy returning to the base elements of the Mother Earth (aka - Rust)...
