All about the RCR LMP1...

Fran, that is killer, love it.
So it's going to look exactly the same?
Wheel base?
Also is the cockpit going to remain LMP 2 seater or will it actually be made to fit two people?

What a great deal.

The LMP1 are actually only a single seater...check out the single roll hoop on the original...

The so called "passenger side" is much smaller and is full of electronics...the monocoque on the RCR does not have a provision for a second seat either as a race car it has no need ...

Yep ..look just the same...

Just snapped a pic of it from behind. Seems equal on both sides of the divider, but yes - they only fit the 'passenger' side with electronics. Another interesting feature of the design is that it's right hand drive. This tub still has the gear lever fitted to the right of the driver - just like a GT40!

I have the chassis at home this weekend as I'm modeling it into 3D CAD. The kids reckon it's a propper 2 seater...

Hi Fran, the later Stroud design looks far better. Info on the earlier chassis is a bit thin on the ground.

Sorry, the email didn't arrive. (Not even in the spam folder with all the porn and stuff)!

Here are the front mounting poiunts from mine...

This is so exciting, for all of we track guys this is such an great opportunity to get your hands on a proper piece of racing equipment from a reputable builder without a $400k+ price tag. Thanks for making this happen Fran, we will certainly see you this winter (prob. round NAIAS) to go over the car and order. Just gotta square our buy in up at Autobahn first. We hope to be looking for his and hers chassis at that time. Just great news!

Fran,

Will the body be a single piece or multi-piece (front/middle/rear)? Estimated weight? And lastly, for racing purposes, will there be an optional 6 point roll cage?

Thanks!!! This is getting very exciting. Being that there is a track day almost every weekend in the SoCal region, this is a definite possibility over an SLC (for me).

Multi piece body panels...nose, tail, cockpit, upper and lower side pods.

The cage is not an option...its a standard part of the car as its a race only package.. cockpit roll hoop, dash hoop, forward and rearward legs.

Goal for all up weight is as close to 2000lbs as we can without sacrificing safety and longevity.....as Colin Chapman said...lightness cost money...it may not have been Chapman but you get the idea...

Now start saving as you never know ...

You and your pics......check out pics of the Cadillac and photoshop them to the colour of your choice, add some Forgestar wheels ....and voila....

He also said, "Any car which holds together for more than a race is too heavy."

Is the LMP1 going to have as much protection as the SLC with the FIA cage? I was thinking about the SLC as a track only vehicle and liked the massive cage. The LMP looks like an even better track vehicle, but maybe not as safe as the SLC? Bit of a safety nut. I want hans, halo seat, arm nets, fire extinguishers, etc, if I'm going to be driving cars this fast.

The LMP is going to be extremely safe....crush box in front of the footbox type safety...I woud not even consider building an unsafe or even marginal track car.

The fact that its an open top car means its a different rollcage but its also a different car.....obviously if you are a roof type guy then its the SL-C...otherwise the LMP would be the go fast route you would want to go...

In an open top car you have to use arm restraints...no need for window nets as it has no windows...

Hans devices are required in all racing now...so thats a non issue.

I'm definitely not implying unsafe. I've been lurking here a while, and it's obvious you care about safety and design it into everything.

My question mainly comes from the fact that I can't imagine a more substanitial cage as can be ordered in the SLC. I really like that cage and I also really like the idea of the LMP1.

I should be patient and wait for you to actual release the LMP1:)

As stated by Fran if the frame is well equiped with front crash box and if Fran is inspired by the actual rules of LMP 1 ; means a small rollbar on top of the steering wheel and the 2 rool bars behind the driver and passenger seat .
This Lmp will be safe as much as a roof covered car .

If I find out some pics in my archives... I will show a pic of an FIA test on LMP 1 rollbar were a tremendous effort was applied to simulate a hard roll over and you will notice so few damage !!

As Mic stated...I am taking my lead from the LMP rules as I stated earlier...single driver hoop and then a dash hoop, with forward and rearward facing legs..
