Allure of the Automobile

This past weekend my kids treated me to the Atlanta High Museum's "Allure of the Automobile". A spectacular viewing of some of the world's most glamourous(older) automobiles. I have made a slideshow of the best pics I could get. No flash was allowed and you had to not only stay behind the barriers, but you couldnot hold your camera over it as well. So some of the lighting is not the best. My kids played the game of which one would you like the best and which one would you want to drive. My favorite was the Bugatti and the Mercedes 540K. They were more of a statement of art as opposed to an automobile. The pics don't show its true setting and interior. For driving I liked Paul Newman's Jaguar. Here is a slideshow of the event. The exhibit moves on after this next weekend. I wanted to slow down the slide show, but could not find an option to do so. Maybe it will allow the viewer to do it.

Great pics Bill thanks, all works of art for sure. The MB 540K and the 69 Stingray and Newmans Jag all ones I'd like to have in my collection. Hell I'd like em all.

Thanks Bill. And to think that people pay millions to own a painting when they could own one of those works of art! They could even drive it!

Tim,
While you are there, they have several other exhibits open. All you have to do is take the elevator to one of the 4 floors and get to see some great art in other forms. Don't go earliy if on the week end. Go late in the afternoon. We went about 5 and were able to just walk in without the crowd. The audio guide is worth the extra $ to get the real history and background. I could listen to Jay Leno talk all day about these old cars. Besides, you don't have to waste your time reading with 10 other people crowded around you.
I thought the info on the Tucker was the most interesting one. Tucker was interested in safety even back then. The Torpedo was built with a padded tunnel under the passenger side dash, for the passenger to jump into in the event of a crash!!!
BTW the MB 450 was a 12 cylinder.
