Angry Old Black Guy Betrays young

“You see, at the heart of liberalism, is the idea that only a great and powerful big Government can be the benefactor of social justice for all Americans. But the left is only concerned with one thing: control. And they disguise this control as charity.”

“But most importantly, it is the idea that the individual must be free to pursue his or her own happiness, free from Government dependence, and free from Government control. Because to be truly free, is to be reliant on no one, other than the author of our destiny,” Guillory continued, pointing to God. “These are the ideas are at the core of Republican party… My brothers and sisters of the American community, please join me in abandoning the Government plantation and the party of disappointment.” ~ Elbert Guillory.

Is there some super secret network of pissed off old white guys? Because about 10 of them have posted this or sent it to me via email in the last 3-4 hours.

Good grief.

Really, ten? You know ten "angry old white guys," and they haven't lynched you yet? I think that proves we have supreme self control, don't you? ;~)

For those afflicted with "cracksyndrome," this post was done with tongue planted firmly in cheek. No DNA cells were damaged in the process. No threats were leveled at anyone in any way at any time. It is a joke, jim.

GUILLORY GETS IT...and that's why the "tolerant" left is going to rip him ham from bacon.

('Too bad there aren't more GOPs who "get it" even half as well as Guillory. In fact, the GOP ought to make HIM their chairman. Maybe then they'd actually turn back into real Republicans again. Guillory a-p-p-e-a-r-s to be a guy who just might get it done.)

So let's see if we got this right.

A few individual black folks are successful, against the odds, in a system that after 400 years of slavery and Jim Crow remains stacked against them -- black folks had and continue to have lower levels of education, employment and income, and higher levels of incarceration.

So we have a system that not only lacks equality of opportunity, but clearly does not produce -- on a racial basis -- equality of results.

And then a bunch of white guys get giddy about an individual black fellow who succeeded despite the odds to endorse and justify an unfair, racist system?

Is that about right? Yes, yes it is.

I didn't see Tiger getting banned from any country clubs lately!

Well Mark, once again you would be wrong.

The system doesn't, Jim...as anyone who has been in the system will tell you.

....IIRC the subject of your inquiry probably didn't get to spend much time in the system....or chose not to do so. I do recall him seeming to have a rather unexplainable disdain for those who attempted to help him get an education....in a manner in which I have no doubt was against his misguided wishes.

He'll probably slam me with some inane insult....guess I should go off running away in shame because he doesn't respect me, or respect educators, or respect....well, no matter......there are none so blind as those who WILL NOT see.

HA, ha!

Jeers!!!

I know some live in the past, but am I correct this is a report from 1990?

Gee Jeff, you have a black president, a black attorney general, a black supreme court justice. We've had a black secretary of state (two), a black chairman of the joint chiefs and 8% of congress is black. How many more decades do you think you can continue to blame Whitey for the problems of black America? Bill Cosby is pretty blunt, open and honest:

Bill Cosby speaks bluntly about black people and education - National Education | Examiner.com

Today, most of the problems come from within the black community and until those are addressed progress will not happen. It's also becoming less relevant as hispanics now outnumber blacks significantly and their political clout will continue to rise.

"IIRC - If I Recall Correctly. Especially common to be used when trying to cover up a vague guess, or when you are truly befuddled and trying to recall a fact of some sort." ~ The Urban Dictionary.

"Befuddled," yeah, yerugliness is in the Urban Dictionary!

Gee Steve, you have black folks making something like 60-70% of what white folks make, significantly lower college attendance and graduation rates, significantly higher poverty rates and significantly higher incarceration rates.

How much longer are you going to go on believing that because a few have succeeded where the vast majority are still strugging that 400 years of YOUR ancestors enslaving and oppressing black folks doesn't matter?

And John, really? An article advocating for segregated schools? Really?

My ancestors weren't in this country until 1928. They were "immigrant" second-class citizens who worked like dogs. Blame someone else. Of course, blaming others or history is part of your mantra rather than looking in the mirror.

Doesn't matter what I "believe". The oppression isn't widespread and institutionalized as it once was. Most of the issues you accurately lay out in your first paragraph have nothing to do with continued oppression and will only be improved upon, and can be improved upon, if the black community takes control of the situation itself.

There's not going to be some big payout, there's not going to be handouts in perpetuity (although the liberals are certainly trying) and even if there were, it would only serve to perpetuate the poverty and the issues.

And yes, it's becoming increasingly irrelevant as the hispanic population continues to grow the problems of the black community become increasingly 2nd page news.
