Angry Old Black Guy Betrays young

A friend of mine years ago (who is a surgeon in Arkansas now) once defined Democrats and Republicans as follows:

"A Democrat is someone who thinks the world would be perfect if everyone would just be nice to everyone else. A Republican is someone who thinks the world is fine as it is and everyone just needs to stop whining all the time"

I just thought I would throw this in so the general frenzy would continue......:)

And Steve, my forebears came here as THIRD class citizens, so having worked our way up to second class we feel we've done quite well indeed.;)

Not a bad definition. The truth hurts sometimes!

I may have regressed to THIRD class citizenship. Of course, it could be worse. I could be in Greece (my ancestry) where the unemployment is 27%!

Then again, they do have great beaches and it's been raining every stinking day here in MN.......

Gee Steve, you have black folks making
And John, really? An article advocating for segregated schools? Really?

Jeff, you and your side is responsible for creating the association that being academically successful is a white trait, and that being white is 'not cool'.

You know damn well that the conservative side has always advocated for everyone, regardless of race, to integrate into one culture; and your side has always advocated for "multiculturalism".

It is indeed very sad seeing an article advocating for segregated schools in modern times, but its a problem you are perpetuating.

Well Mark, once again you would be wrong.

Perhaps you are right to correct me then Jim, but frankly, you can stick the 'once again' bit up your jacksie mate! Self-riteous popousness in the extreme.

Considering you claim to be on the side of do-goodery, you have a highly tuned knack of sounding like an aggressive little point-scorer.

Finally, citing a bunch yee haa's from Alabamy is yet another example of you choosing extremes to suggest a norm. That's likeme saying all Amereecans drive pickups.

My point re Tiger was a general one as I suspect you well know. That in general, a black golfer is not refused to play alongside angry old whitey. Go smoke a pipe!

The term, "Pompous Windbag" falls readily to hand.

I laughed out loud at that one. I for one, at least based on my high school grades, was decidedly NOT responsible for creating the association that being academically successful was a "white trait."

The rest of your post is a bunch of Fax News Mumbojumbo. "Multiculturalism" means a lot of things. On the extreme, separatism is a bad thing. In the middle, have a respect for all cultures and not using terms like "Black Sack" or "yard ape" to refer to other folks, and allowing all culturals to have a sense of pride in their history, is fine.

And the answer is most assuredly NOT more segregated schools. Which you continue to seem to advocate. Which is incredibly sad.

Well if you did well academically and subsequently were successful and you're black, what the hell are you complaining about!

Jeff, you know that you are falsely accusing me and putting words in my mouth, please don't. You should also do some research on who wrote that article I posted. Surely you must think of him as a racist bigot!?

Let me help you:

Just for clarity, I may have missed it, but where exactly is John advocating (or more specifically, 'continuing to' advocate) for more segregated schools?

Mark, I wasn't referring to you as the Pompous Windbag, but rather the "fellow" you were addressing in your post that I quoted.

When my son was six, he wanted to climb up the ladder to the roof I was on. I said "no, unless I am with you on the ladder going up."

He got mad and called me a "pompous windbag," and stormed off, so I know how you must feel, my apologies.

p.s. I believe he got the term from watching "Mary Poppins."

Jeff, please show in the article where segregated schools are advocated - and not used as a case study to highlight the topic of the article which is "Acting White".
