cold air box

I am thinking of fabricating a turkey pan for the holley in my CAV gt40. I was wondering if the large oval "cobra" type air filter can behave as a cold air box.

Just to make sure you know, you can buy a turkey pan from a US outfit: Cobra "Turkey Pan" Ram Air Box

I'm not sure what you're asking about the air cleaner; the classical turkey pan isolates the entire carburetor from the surrounding hot air and seals to the hood scoop so there is no where for cold air to go but down the carburetor (more or less).

In the case of GT40 Mk IIs, the idea was the same except that the turkey pan sealed to the aluminum plate ("deck") separating off the area just under the rear window that is fed by the upper side scoops:
