DRB no.72

Nice work. Looks like you 'stole' my colour scheme, minus the black centre stripe. Blackouts and Red is the go. Though I found the side stripes help break up the wall of red look. Just got mine on the road after 5 months of trans drama, so I can understand you're getting more than a little twitchy to drive it.

Enjoy,

Julian

Well after 14 months at DRB the interior, paint and engine are done.

Still awaiting some parts from the chrome plater (5 months) so I am picking it up Monday and bringing it home unfinished.

Basically I am out of patience and not prepared to spend any more money on this.

Here are some pics that PR sent me (too annoyed to even go and see it).

Hoppy, sympathies that what should be sheer enjoyment is being spoiled by the frustration of things not being done when you are relying on people to do them (and paying for it). It will all work out in the end, but meanwhile grab the car and see if you can find places to finish the last few bits. Eventually you will drive it again and love it. It looks cool.

Well after driving the 130k's to my place from DRB all I can say is "all sins are forgiven".

The car was complete except for some minor issues with the chrome plating which can now be resolved at my leisure.

So glad it is finally in my garage.

Having driven 5000k's it it with the standard engine and bare interior all I can say is it truly is "night and day".

With the interior done the car is a lot quieter(do not need ear plugs anymore).

The new engine purr's,just a little lumpy down low, but liveable.

Temp never went over 90C in traffic and 80C in cruise.Oil press is 40psi hot idle and 50 hot run.

The vacuum pump that was fitted to the clutch is perfect (feel like my Hyundai shopping car)

Atta boy hoppy --go get some milage, your desperations will soon become pleasures and with all this rain we're getting you'll be be able to get accustomed to steamy windows, how well the wipers work and where are the water leaks coming from
BTW the car looks fantastic, you should be proud

Thanks mate,

Drove home in the pissing rain and had no leaks just a dirty car.

Still cleaning it as the local Ford dealer wants it for a car show this weekend.

Then weather permitting I shall quickly clock up the 500 k's to its oil change.

Your car looks great..
Do you have any detailed pics of your clutch booster set-up.
I really think I'm gonna have to put a booster on my DRB..
don't think my left leg can handle another season without it.;)

Craig,
Step your clutch master cylinder down one size(Ex. 3/4" to 5/8") and you will get a softer pedal. May have to put up with a little extra travel.

Hops where did you get the Ford lettering ?

G'day mate,

The F O R D letters are from a 67 Mustang,I wanted period correct.

The mounting pins are just long enough to go through the fibreglass and allow you to smear some 5 min Araldite underneath to secure them, the clips that come with them will not work as the fibreglass is too thick.

Ordered through California Mustang, cost AUD 40.50 delivered.

You can search the antique Ford shops for the letters. Melvins Classic Ford Parts
is one of the better ones. They are right in my back yard and have been there many times.Yours apear to be a little different from my friend who owns the 66 Road Car that I help with. We were going to replace several of them, but I couldn't convince him to take them off for me to take in and compare. They mount just as yours do.

Thanks Woody,

It has been a task but the finished product is well and truly worth it.

I think the detail is what finishes a project.

John did a great job with the paint and I am happy with my colour choice.

Hopefully your build will progress a bit more smoothly.

Hi Craig,

I just got back from holidays and,as the engine is now run-in,I was jacking the car to do the oil change when I remembered your post.

Hope these are helpful,if you need more detail or different angles just let me know.
