Driving Schools

I was wondering if anyone had any info on some good driving schools. I dont have a "super" car yet, and my 4 banger Accord doesn't exactly test my limits.

I'd just like to take a day or two, or a week- and learn how to really drive these cars, avoid pitfalls, pull out of spins, etc-and be "qualified" to drive the heck out of this car when I feel like it.

So, the school would have to provide the car-doesn't matter too much where it is, preferrably the eastern half of the United States. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bob Bondurant and Skip Barber are both very good. I took a 3-day High Performance Driving class from Bondurant many years ago when they were still at Sears Point, and a Skip Barber Racing school more recently when they were at Sears Point. Bondurant has long since moved to Phoenix and I think Skip Barber is now at Laguna Seca (at least on the west coast - I think they're also at Lime Rock).

For basic car control and learning to drive at speed you should start with a High Performance Driving class rather than a racing class. Both types are offered by both schools. If you choose Bondurant you get to drive a Ford Mustang. If you choose Skip Barber you get to drive a Dodge Viper.

There are other schools out there though I am less familiar with them. Jim Russell (now at Sears Point I think) and Derek Daley (Las Vegas) come to mind. I'm sure there are others and more back East, but I'm just not familiar with them...

I think Road Atlanta still has a high performance school. I haven't checked into it recently. Can't tell you much else except they have the Petit Lemans series.
