Christian Horner has gone on record that the trick exhaust that is banned from Silvertone and all other races will cost his cars about 1/2 second per lap. He goes on the say that in RBR they only use cold air whereas some of the other teams are worse placed in that they use hot exhaust air. I think the RBR cars will end up almost lapping about half of the other entries up to about p10 at the next race.

Actually the thinking behind this is total genious. Being colder air is more dense I would think that it would be more effective than the hot air of the other cars. Having it removed, the RBR would have more of a detriment.
Please explain the physics of this if my thinking is wrong.

Red Bull only uses cold air and ignores the hot air that is available when the throttle angle (delta?) is "off throttle" and the car is reducing speed or cornering so in fact the other teams are getting a greater benefit of higher speeds into their diffusers by not only using the cold air but the hot air as well.
Hence my comment about lapping quite a few of the field at Silverstone. I think the RBR cars will be out of sight in no time at all. The cars with this type of exhaust system were actually revving away going around corners but the high rpm and exhaust gas from it had no driven wheel effect - just loads of air into the diffuser. Quite strange noises from it really.
So Maclaren, Merc, Ferrari et all will have more of a disadvantage. Renault? Who knows because I have a feeling they were emulating RBR.
Is that making a bit of sense? If not I'll try it a different way.

Daniel Ricciardo to have his F1 debut at Silverstone. Good luck mate.
Australian Daniel Ricciardo will make his Formula One debut in the next round of the world championship at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.
The West Australian will drive for HRT F1 Team, replacing Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan.
Speedcafe.com understands that an announcement will be made later tonight (UK time).
Early reports suggest that Ricciardo will replace Karthikeyan for the rest of the season, with Karthikeyan stepping back into the seat for the Indian Grand Prix in late October.
Ricciardo, a Red Bull Junior driver currently competing in the World Series by Renault class, will compete ‘on loan’ from Red Bull.
Ricciardo’s F1 debut will be at his ‘home’ GP, as he lives just down the road at Milton Keyes, near the Silverstone.
It will be a big day for Ricciardo tomorrow, who also celebrates his 22nd birthday.

Small article of news from yesterday. Frank Williams has cemented a deal with Renault for engines from 2012 thereby dropping Cosworth. It was one of F1's worst kept secrets and makes it the fourth team on the grid using French engines made in

Quite big news if you think about the power of advertising. CATERHAM will be writ large on the side pods of the Team Lotus cars this weekend at the British Gp.
OK - so it's no longer a 'British' concern in terms of ownership and they (Caterham 7's) are bloody uncomfortable - nigh on impossible - to drive with a fat arse or a waist band more than 34" and it helps to be a short arse as well (about 5'6") and the weather gear is preposterous but ......don't they look the part especially when there are a group of them en route to Le Mans. And unlike the loud Subarbloodyroo crowd, aren't they usually well driven.
At last a Formula 1 car says it.

When we had the papers on board the aeroplanes, I used to off load the Daily Mail because they were anti pilot when we threatened strike action. Sort of censorship in a way. Maintenant, a ne fait rien.

Makes me feel better Jack. I was released this afternoon and got home just in time to watch it.

David, it was estimated that one-million spectators crowded the roads, parks and anyplace they could fit a car. 2116 hrs here now and the main roads and highways are still pretty busy. Totally choked for about 5 hours after the launch.
My best guess that those observers had only about 50 seconds of actual viewing time before the shuttle disappeared into the clouds. Well before completing the transonic throttle-up. Fantastic on the TV though with live feeds from NASA. I had only a slight glimpse of the trail between layers.
