GT40 Australia Chassis #64

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Dave you are absolutely flying along. You should paint your car royal blue with gold stripes and gold wheels. Forget this boring black business. ha ha. Keep up the super speed build.

Regards

Jack

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Today was a good day as we took the Gt40 for it's first drive.
Bedded in brakes and all seems well. Tomorrow we will head out and put
about 50km on it if all goes well.

Here's a link to a video of my first drive

YouTube - GT40 DRB#64 first drive

Seat trimmer let me down and I now I am chasing a set of trimmed seats,
Any ideas on were to get them from?

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Well done Dave. You've done well.

I'd like to be driving mine round by the end of this year. How long will it take to get your car through registration now?

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Dave.
Great to see you have the car going. How about bringing it up to Collie for the next sprint. (18th March)

It would be a good opportunity to have a decent go with the car whilst avoiding the implications on the road from Mr Plod.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Thanks Guys

Jack -If only I could settle on a colour, I could sleep better at night.

Lee- How's your car coming along? I keep looking for updates.

Rick-I still don't have seats and am getting desperate as I want to register
the car in the next few weeks. Then everything like 90 decibel
exhaust system and factory EFI have to go straight onto Julians car
to get him licensed. Hopefully my car will then get sprayed and new
motor fitted, so probably will not get to drive car till late this year.
Hoping to enter my VT 5ltr manual in some events just to say G'day
and catch up with a few friends. Driving on the road was a blast and
was very happy with the handling and brake pedal feel straight out of
the box.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Hi Dave

you seem pretty handy with your build so I think you shouldn't worry too much about your color. Paint it what you like, and when you get sick of it, sand it down and paint it a new color. I can't decide on a color either, and I don't even have a car! Here are some of the combinatios that have popped into my head (where my car is parked)

Blue with gold stripes and gold mags
Orange with black stripes and black mags
Blue with no stripes and black mags (probably need some big F-Off colored brembo or harrop brakes though)
Maroon with silver stripes and black mags (ala lance's build)
Silver with black stripes and black mags
Blue with silver stripes and chrome mags
Yellow with balck stripes and balck mags
Orange with titanium stripes and titanium colored mags
Yellow with blue stripes and silver or blue mags

as you can tell a) I like stripes, and b) black mags

Also, you need to put some big f-off colored calipers on regardless of what color you paint it. At the Melbourne motor show last week all the super cars had the huge breaks and they all looked awesome.

Keep up the great work

Cheers

Jack

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

I found a black and white 3/4 few pencil drawing and made a lot of copies in an 8x10 format. Than used colored pencils to make all the combos I thought I liked, including stripes. Not fool proof, but a good way to get an idea of what your idea looks like.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Ok
Here's my colour choices
Personally I like Bright green with black stripes and black wheels (Wife says "No way Buddy").
Now onto sensible colour choices
Bright red with white stripes would be a good colour for resale.
Ford Bionic Blue with white stripes and silver wheels ,nice I think? When I tell people they seem to pull their nose up and not say anything.
Wife wants black with white stripes /black wheels.
Julians going Blood red with black stripes/ black wheels.(I hate people who know what they want)(sorry Jules)
I often think about Metallic spearmint green with white stripes /black wheels.(Wife attacks me when I bring it up).
Gulf scheme is nice and I like the sponsor logo thing, but it's been done to death.
Why is life so hard when it comes to colours??

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Hi Dave,

How about doing it metalic gold? It's a nice vintage colour and with todays clear coats would look stunning. Similar to one of the original mk II's colour.

Haven't seen any gold replicas yet.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Hey Mike
Answered your Laser wiper motor question on your build thread, Great to see you working on your car again. Oh any ideas on a paint scheme?

Ricky- Mmmmmm Gold sounds good, but I need a colour that is easily repairable. Keep the colour ideas coming.

Davo, I commend you with your effortless and speedy build, so--- how come the problem with paint ???? --- just do it !

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

The GT40 is so pretty that IMHO it shows well in nearly any color.

The tougher decision is whether to stripe...how wide...what color.
Those combinations will drive you batty !

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Ok here's the truth with the colour problem, I'm green/blue colour blind.
My perception of colour is very different to most, so colours that please me often are very odd to others. The challenge is to find a colour that suits the car that I'm happy with.

Dave, paint it with a chameleon paint. You should have a color acceptable to all, depending upon where they are standing and how the light reflects off the car.:)

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Got my seats back from the trimmer today, Very happy with the job.
Sorted out seatbelt light and a few other bits and pieces. Hoping to finalise car this weekend for Registration next weekend.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Hi dave

your seats look great. Suitable thickness, nice lateral support, sweet rich leather, I love your build updates, they come so thick and fast.
