High-Fill primer used at RCR

My RCR arrived with the +2" flares, so that area of the rear clip was shot with a high-fill primer. Since I plan to do my own bodywork and paint, I'd like to stick with compatible products. Anyone know what the RCR shop uses for these type of mods? Fran, can you help with this one?

Also, what is the composition of the glass body? Poly or vinylester?

Thanks guys,

Tom

Hi .. since no one has answered , I thought I might . For all priming , filling , try Vette Panel Adhesive . When I started my build I called up a friend who does 100 point restorations . The product is great , easy to work , I think it can be built to 1/4" , although I never went over 1/8". Have fun .

Thanks for the response Dave. FYI, Fran responded with a PM right after my posting.

The spray on polyester primer RCR used on my car is Evercoat's Feather Fill spray on primer/polyester filler. It's been around for awhile and works well. Evercoat also makes the Vette Panel Adhesive/Filler, which I've used before on other cars, and the one you recommended. I've used it to bond glass flairs over a glass body but don't think it can be sprayed on. Since this is my second Vinyl Ester glass body, I've used the 3M Marine Vinyl Ester Blister and Repair Filler in the past with good results. It's a pretty stout panel bonder but very hard to sand so you don't want to goop it on.

I've used Evercoat Slick Sand, and Spies Hecker Raderal. Although Raderal is more expensive, it builds much quicker so the price difference isn't as large as it appears. They both work excellent though.

Poly primer was used by dealerships back in the 80's when the old finishes were cracking. They actually filled in the cracks with heavy coats of poly primer, sanded, and painted. No stripping. That's a hack way to work, but they got away with it a lot. That should tell you how tough this stuff is.
