Le Mans Classic 2008 11-12-13th July 2008

I have this on good authority that those attending the 2008 classic this year with paddock passes will need a shirt and Tie to gain access.
I have been advised that this rule will be enforced at the paddock entrance those without the apropiate dress will be turned away.
Getting a little bit like the "Goodwood Revival" will we need a full dress suit for the 2010 Classic.

I dont know if this is a wind-up - it sounds like it, but I post it for someone much wiser than I to confirm or deny.....

"the Le'man's classic is changing some of it's stipulation's for this year's event due to a terrorist threat ..

the organizer's of the 2008 classic event are taking these threat's very seriously and in light have changed some plan's and system's in place..

there will be no close proxcimity parking all visitor's to the event will be placed in sercure parking 5km's from the racetrack area, the event organiser's will be supplying sercure transport to and from the parking facility's..

all competitor's vehical's must be brought in on transporter's that will be supplied at a small cost by the event organiser's..

when interviewed about the new stipulations and procedure's in place the organiser's stated that they was taking all threat's very serious and apologise for any inconviniece's caused but state that in these time's no allowence's will be made and that risk assesment and public safety is paramount."

Ian,
I'm not sure if this will be enforced but probably advisable for all our members attending to take a tie just in case, I guess as this event becomes more popular there will be more and more rules to comply with!-still the best classic event on the calender though.

I am attending along with a large-ish group of Pantera owners, all of whom made their own arrangements to camp in Maison Blanche. We are just now getting our tickets etc., and Just Tickets has only now decided to mention the detail that this year we are being put in *assigned* campsites! As there was no mention of this when we ordered our tickets, we are thus scattered all over the place instead of being allowed to camp together as we planned! :furious:

We have asked to see if perhaps arrangements could be made to swap campsites so that we'd be able to camp together, and they haven't even bothered to respond.

What a cock-up! :furious:

Thanks Paul--I forwarded the information on to my group's CampingFührer for possible action. The proposed remedy would be both logistically challenging and likely expensive (I would estimate 150 quid charge from Just Tickets plus additional shipping expenses incurred from each of us to return the old passes) so we'll have to see if this can be sorted or not?

I do thank you very much for your help!

Thanks in no small part to Paul's efforts, Just Tickets seems to be willing to cooperate with us in straightening out this problem. We will each have to first return our existing passes to JT, and then they will issue a block of six adjacent tickets to one of us, who in turn will then distribute to the rest.

When we first tried to sort it ourselves a few weeks ago, we were told they were entirely sold out and there was nothing they could do. (I misspoke above when I said they didn't reply; in fact they had replied but said there was nothing they could do).

Whether there were numerous cancellations, or they secured another block of tickets, I don't know. I'm just glad it's going to work out after all. Thanks again Paul!

I do hope that JT has learned from the mistake of failing to clearly state that campsites are now numbered and assigned, for the first time. I think the new policy is actually an excellent idea, and very reasonable; it's the failure to communicate that the policy has changed that has caused the problems.

I am under the impression that we are not the only ones who have been caught out by this change of policy, and I suspect they are probably dealing with numerous inquiries like ours.

See you in Le Mans!

Hi Mike,
I'm pleased things seem to be sorting themselves out OK. I must say from my experience of booking via Just Tickets, this is the 1st time I have encountered any problems. They are normally very efficient and flexible.
Good luck with the ticket swap, I'm pleased your Organising Guru thought out of the box to come up with a workable solution to the problem.
I look forward to meeting up at Le Mans, not long now !!

Talking of tickets, I spoke to the organisers today and they told me that the entry tickets will be with me next week-they are running behind due to the recent 24HR race!, so i will be co-ordinating the despatch of these as soon as they arrive.
I recently sent an e-mail to those members who have tickets on order explaining that due to the fluctuation with the Euro we are requesting an extra £10.00 per entry ticket to ensure the club will break even and not be subsidised by non attending members-I have had a good repsponse with the majority either e-mailing me authorising the extra via card or sending a cheque to cover, unfortunately some members have not responded so if you are one of them and see this post please contact me or send a cheque asap so that I can ensure your tickets are despatche dto you on time.
look forward to seeing you all in france

Being a GT40 outcast, having sold my car after the last Classic in 2006, I was disappointed not to be able to take my Noble into the circuit this year, or participate in the track laps. I fully understand the organisers logic in restricting the event to certain types of car, and I'm not complaining, but that doesn't stop me being disappointed!

Also, as I'm not travelling back on Monday 14th, the Abbeville track day is also not an option for me either.

To lessen my sadness, I have booked on a track day on the Bugatti Circuit at Le Mans on Monday 7th July. I know it's not the full historic circuit, but I will get to drive the start/finish straight and the Dunlop curves for about 4 hours, so I'm quite looking forward to it!

I know from Max's list that most people aren't travelling out until later in the week, but if anyone is interested in this track day you can book through European Trackday Specialist.
Almost worth changing your travel arrangements for, I suggest!

Roy,

unfortunately it seems I didn´t get the email. Charging these extra 10.00 GBP is fine with me, of course.

Regards,

Marcus
