Oil Cooler Hose sizes

Can anyone tell me if I am running a slightly warmer 302 whether using -12 hose to the cooler would be too much.

The reason I ask is that someone has offered me a NOS Mocal cooler at less than 50% of the new price but it has -12 not -10. Thans

I think the -12 would be preferable, also avoid 90 degree fittings, go with 45s

I use -12 as a rule along with Aeroquip brand fittings..

The -10 hoses and comparable fittings will work fine with a small-block Ford, but you can't lose with the -12 size, although weight and cost will be a little higher. As for bends at the fittings, go with swivel-type fittings. They're pricey, but ensure minimal flow losses.

All my stuff is -10 on my race cars, but I second the other fellows, if I could use -12 I would. I've use Aeroquip, Jegs, Summit, and Earl's fittings AN fittings - never had a problem with any of them. Definitely the Jegs and Summit brands were less expensive than the others, but I didn't notice a quality problem and they are working fine.

If you already have the 10 hoses, you can always use stepdown fittings. Look in any of the speed shop catalogues. They are there.

Thanks all for the quick replies. Cooler bought with -12 fittings :thumbsup:

Just have to source the hoses etc, btu will probably do it in a Jegs order I am putting together.
