All-According to a news clip in a recent article of Motor Trend, Saleen will be the builder of the new GT40 for Ford. Roush may be involved in the engine program, but Saleen will actually build the car.
Yeah I heard the GT40 will be under 150000, after i posted
.
"Eddie, the new GT40 isn't designed to be a competing car. It was designed from the ground up to be the perfect *road* car" thats true but so was Mclaren F1.. but then f1 did cost half a million or was it more?
Dont get me wrong.. I have no problem seeing a nice looking car on the road... The whole living legends thing is screwed up IMHO... If GT40 was anything it was a left over from 60s... Only things they have as legends would be the ford f150 and the mustang because they are still being made... The new car looks really nice BTW...
Le Mans result for 2003 will probably be:
1st: Bentley
2nd. Bentley
3rd. Audi R8 private entry
for 2004:
1st: New Audi coupe
2nd: ditto
3rd: ditto
and for 2005 the same. Why on earth would Ford bother? Unless they are running in a different class to the above its not worth their time and effort. The Audi mark has it totally sewn up - I've seen and been part of the Joest team (up close and personal) at work at Le Mans, and they are absolutely awsome. They are loaning some of their expertise to the Bentley boys for 2003.
As much as I think the GT40 is the all time great, leave it at that - its from another time.

This is a reply to Mr. Weigold, who up above stated that the 40 was built during a time of power for Ford. If my history is correct, then Ford built the 40 after Ferrari refused to be bought. The 40 was supposed to hurt Ferrari at its pride, the racetrack. I agree that Ford has nothing to prove now. Does anyone know if the GT90 ever raced, or was it just a concept? Maybe Porsche should bring back the 917 eh?
I was not commenting on the reason WHY Ford built the GT40. I agree with what you state. My point was that, at the time they decided to go ahead, they were in a much sounder financial position to do so (i.e. give the project the resources necessary to make it the best car in its class). This is not the case today.
