P2304

This is just my .02 & personal taste but when I purchased my 40 I thought a wee bit about the fact you can let the car get dirty, allow a few chips of paint here and there and enjoy the fact it didn't need to look pristine because the more "used" it appeared the more "real" it would look to casual observers. Most originals I've seen have that certain "patina" coming from heavy race use or from being driven by its owner. I always admired the owner for keeping it that way.

Awesome car Jeff, but the finish on the engine blows me away! It should be on public display until it goes in the car! I'm with Jimmy P on the patina thing, if you use the car it is impossible to avoid stone chips and patina will develop. I noticed at least three marks I picked up from my trip to Goodwood, and they were not in the places you would expect to get them, but - worn with pride!
I look forward to seeing the finished car and your driving impressions.

Dave^2 - thanks! And I do agree with you and Jimmy P about using the car and not trying to keep in perfect. I turned 50 last week and this is sort of a milestone present to myself. I've had the cars in the past where I sweated keeping them perfect, suffered every nick and scratch, only to sell them to the next person to enjoy. I hope my road is long, but at 50 there seems very little point in saving it for later or for someone else. My experience is the difference in resale between a perfect unused car and a well cared for/maintained driven car is way less than the enjoyment derived from using the car. Things can indeed be repaired, reconditioned, repainted if desired.

I did not want to strip the packaging off the engine while it's sitting in the shop awaiting install, but I will get some better photos of the engine in a week or so.

As for the too much horsepower thing...after extensive consultation with Superformance and a few others, I believe the Roush 427 IR offers relatively acceptable streetability and reliability for it's horsepower rating. Of course there is still plenty on tap if one desires a little silliness. I do however expect this to be a little bit more of a challenge to drive than my E350 4Matic Wagon.

Just a tad.

Remember there are plenty of guys with big HP and none have issues with it, its just a personal preference of MINE, not looking down on those who have and can handle it, I'm just one who doesn't have that ability or nerve. You might find it not enough. :) More Power to ya!

It is beautiful engine dude!

You must be stoked, and a great time of year to break it in. I did the Dream Cruise with mine some years back.

Should be on the road in time for 4th of July weekend...

RM Motorsports does not mess around. The delays to date were just waiting for the RBT. RM is on it. The number of tweaks and improvements they've made along the way certainly have made me thrilled with my choice of installer. Attention to detail is stunning. Every line, every bolt, everything - done to a degree of perfection beyond my knowledge and ability to have even asked. Things I just never would have noticed have been raised to an incredible level of perfection. They have a list of about 15 things they slightly reworked or addressed to improve on what was delivered.

I'm not sure how it will be possible, but they tell me I will have it for the 4th of July weekend.

The car looks fantastic. Consider putting some sheathing over the upper shift cable to shei;d it from header heat. Are you running the stock Girling reservoirs?

Thanks for the tip on shift cable shielding. I would think yes they left the stock Girling reservoirs, but I'll have to check. What is your thought there?

Thanks for the tips.

Jeff, here is some heat shielding. Those headers get warm.

Regarding the reservoirs, some including myself found them to be leaky and create messes with brake fluid running down the side of the chassis. I replaced them with the Tilton reservoir. I would encourage you address it now before you have to clean up the mess the Girlings create. My 2 cents...

Dave, thanks for the tip. How are your spark plug wires routed? Mine go down and back - away from the headers, so not sure I'll have a problem. RM Motorsports did a fair amount of rerouting things to clean things up. For example, the fuel rail is normally supplied from the back. RM switched it around so the supply comes from the front and only has to neatly cross the bulkhead. They did a lot of interesting things...like shortening up the AC hoses, etc. An incredibly clean install. Nothing out of place, all cables and such routed for maximum efficiency and clean look.

Mike, thanks for the tip on the shifter cable. Added that to the list today. Along with shielding over the headers to protect the rear clip. Stone deflecting material going in the tops of the inner wheel wells. Mirrors very similar to yours, except black. I may throw an accent color on them in the future - as I've said before, I really like your mirrors.

In spite of a power outage at the shop today, RM tells me I'll have the car on Thursday. They have been amazing to deal with. Even with a few unexpected challenges (well, nothing is completely unexpected), they still came in under budget. I can't believe I got the quality of install for the money. No one will ever look at something done during install and say "they should have done that better". Which was not the case with my Superformance Cobra (bought it used, install done elsewhere - what a hack job that was).

Ok, gotta go clean the garage in expectation of a new arrival...

Gotta tell you we have done the underside of the rear clip on a couple of cars with the spray-on "Lizardskin" product and have been very pleased with the results. I did my MK II and the difference in surface temp using the old "Mark I hand temp indicator" is noticeable.

I do recommend it...........

I have researched the Lizard Skin product carefully and have bought both the thermal and acoustic barrier products. While some people use Dynamat for sound deadening, I plan to use the acoustic Lizard Skin instead. I have seen a very impressive demonstration of the nano ceramic thermal barrier Lizard Skin in which half of a iron skillet was coated with Lizard Skin and two ice cubes were placed on the skillet. When the non-coated side ice cube had evaporated, the other cube was starting to melt.

They say to put the acoustic layer down first and then the thermal layer if you want both. I plan to use it liberally on my car.
