Previously Undiscovered Rare Footage of Hitler

Wow, on a serious note, there's a side to Hitler I never pictured at the end there after the speech - he looked surprised, happy (almost smiling), maybe even humbled by the crowd's reaction. Growing up in America 40 years after WWII, some of us get only one image him. Don't get me wrong, he is at the top of the list of the most vile human beings.

That's the tough thing about some of the worst people in history - in some respects they are just human beings, like everyone else. Hitler was a good painter, an OK poet, very caring towards his mother and wife, and enjoyed the company and comraderie of his senior staff. Trouble is, the other part of them is heinous, and the few redeeming qualities don't make up for the bad.

Beware of the dictator who waves his hands....

Think Cliff hits the nail on the head.

Hitler displayed a typical character scheme to be found on dictators: Very caring towards people within his personal surrounding (he´d been struggling for days telling his secretary Traudl Junge that her husband had fallen on the Eastern Front) while at the same time he wasn´t bothering to issue orders causing the death of millions of people.

Timeline: 65 yrs since he killed himself (30Th April 1945) with a gunshot to the head preceded with a cyanide capsule.
Really, I thought cyanide was almost instantaneous, which would have precluded the gunshot. But maybe I've watched too many James bond movies. Medicos please chime in.

Not a medic Pete, but I imagine that being shot in the head would make you clench everything including your teeth where you have strategically placed a cyanide capsule.

So, it probably went like this:

"Bang!"

"Ouch!" (Clench - smell of bitter almonds)

"Ugh - What ze fuck was zat?"

"Gott in Himmel"

Thump

I think he may have had loads of different calibre fatal gunshot /pistol wounds. A bit like the old Sultan of Oman Said Bin Taimur - he was deposed in the palace in Salalah and he had 5 different calibre wounds. The bastard survived though and lived for another two years in a highly guarded suite of rooms in Claridges. Another total cock up by the Heath Covernment using the Trucial Oman Scouts and the Omani Air Force while the SAS stood by helpless.
