RF old style wheel look

Check this picture below. I love the look of the baggy tyre walls.

I am sure the wheels are the wine glass style in 16inch diameter.
I am hoping someone has fitted similar to an RF style kit and also
I am hoping some one can give me a link to buy similar looking tyres and wheels.

Cheers
Dave

Looks 15" to me, but could be wrong.
Not a good selection of 16" rubber out there. The widest I've found in 16's were 255/50/16, not the best look on 9.5" rims.
What size rotors are you planning on running ??

Dave

I have 15" on my RF.
You wont run big brakes.
298mm front disk.

Those tyres in pics are goodyear blue streaks.
Race only and a cross ply.

I have a halibrand casting pattern for a three piece centres.

Not much if anything to be gained with 16" rims...the TVR I used to help with has 16" Jongbloed wheels, we found that the rim manufacturer of these were using modified 15" patterns to make the 16" spinnings & therefore there was little if any gain in brake clearance etc for the change... plenty of 'decent' 15" higher profile tires available for the original look from Goodyear & Hoosier in race category, Nitto if your after street stuff...

15 inch is fine, just finding the correct wineglass pattern is hard. Imgae wheels UK has something pretty close......

Jim can I ask your wheel widths and offsets? Your wheels seem to fit perfectly.

RF should give you a job as an online Tech.

These team 3 wheels should do the job except with a satin black centre in 15inch. I want to go away from knock ons and back to wheels studs.

Hi folks,

Here are photos of the 295 / 50 / 15 Hankooks (108V) I'm using on the rear of my RCR and 205 / 60 / 15 on the front.

Smaller brakes - yeah, but I go for the original "baggy" look.

Maybe not a very dignified way to make my long overdue debut here, but there we go.

Regards, Glenn.

Welcome Glenn, looks good, baggy is good.

Dave

front
8.5"
5 1/8 back set
2.5" outer split
6" inner split

rear
9.5
5 1/8 back set
6" inner
3.5" outer

The 5 1/8 comes from the machined height of the centre.

The advantage of the metal spinner I used was the barrels are straight on the inner, this allows room for brakes.
A lot of rims waist down on the inside.

I use a 298mm disk and the caliper has about 3mm of clearance.
On a rim that waistes down forget it you wont get them under.

I personally dont think you need to over kill on the brakes.
If I try hard enough I could make it lock on the avons and that would be about 1.1-1.2g there abouts, on the sumitomo I can smoke them easy.
VE com front brakes.

I know it is blabbing on about brakes but brakes and wheels go hand in hand because what ever you have on their know may not fit

Glenn, welcome to the madness:
I too say baggy is good, those skinny sidewalls on 17" wheels make things look "tuner car-ish" if that makes sense.
My specs on brakes are similar to Jim's, 11.75" rotor X 1.25 wide, Wilwood calipers and everything clears just fine with my wheels. Wheels are 15 X 14 in rear with 4 7/8 backspace and 15 X 10 front, same backspace.
I will admit that tire choices can be a bit limited, and the Avons are pricey, but thats what I wanted on the car.
I am on a temporary laptop here so no photo, but some on my build log.
Keep posting on your build, looks good so far.
Cheers

Should have mentioned earlier, the excellent customer service I received from Bob Lacey at Vintage Wheels in the USA. I had been chasing testing certification for the 15" BRM - style wheels supplied by Vintage Wheels for some time. He came through with the necessary paperwork I needed for rego here.

Vintage Wheels are also available in Australia through Paul Bottomley at Automotive Performance Solutions. mailto:p[email protected]

Regards, Glenn.

These PS wheels look good, thanks for the link. I have contacted them for a price......I am really hoping to get bolt on's. They got the proper wine glass shape.

Last time I contacted Phil Schmidt (PS Engineering) he said they no longer made the Halibrand wine glass style.

Looks like image wheels are the go. I was thinking I would get a side profile laser cut in the back space I want to see how it clears before I order. With satin black centres

I got a set of BRM wheels and they look great on a GT 40 replica especially if it is painted in Gulf colours.

All I now need is a unfinished project and any leads would be appreciated in purchasing same would be appreciated.
