Rick's RCR GT40

Rick,
Congratulations and welcome to North Texas!
I'm in NRH frequently. Let's grab a cold beverage when you get settled.

Welcome back to the fold :) Your GTD was the one that really got me looking into trying to build one. Still working on that ...

Rick,

Great to hear you are joining us here in North Texas! The Texas Cobra Guys meet the first Saturday of every month for lunch (a few of us GT40 guys attend as we are past Cobra owners) and then the GT40 group try to get together the 3rd Saturday of the month. Can't wait to see your car once you get settled.

I am settled into my new job and the honey do's are all finished, now I can devote my spare time to completing the GT40!

I would like to invite all Dallas Forth Worth area GT40 owners or any other car lover to stop by and talk cars. I would like to see your GT40 so bring it by. Send me a PM for my contact info.

I have cleaned out the garage and set up my work space. Presently the 40 is taking up 2 spaces of my 3 car garage. I will send out another update this weekend, it is great to be building my toy again.

It was a pleasure meeting some of the Dallas Fort Worth area GT40 and Cobra owners / builders and I look forward to meeting the rest of the group in the coming months.

I have been working on my GT40 so I will be posting progress already made...

I finished the fiberglass work on the dash, I extended the ends of the dash so that they would touch the sill. I then molded a lip on the front edge to support the front (where it meets the windshield) of the dash. Then I molded in a recess into the front edge of the demister grill inset area so that the grill would be supported on all edges. (I think that I put about 70 hours of labor into fiber-glassing and sanding the dash). After sanding and painting I wired up the dash, now all gauges, fans, fuel pumps, horns, lights, a/c unit, XFI and XIM ecu's, turn signal, hazard switch, brake switch, starter and ignition switch work as expected. I made a separate harness for the wiper motor but have not installed the wiper motor yet. I verified that the brakes and clutch work as expected without any leaks. I had to replace the IFF brake line connectors (rear lines by the engine) since BOTH of them leaked and I tightened them correctly the first time. When replacing them I examined the lines very carefully and noticed that the flair was not done very well so I had to redo both flairs on the long lines that run through the tunnel. I had to put a stop on the clutch pedal since I am using a Tilton hydraulic throw-out bearing, it works nice and has a nice feel to it (see pic).

Bob, It was a pleasure to meet you as well and I am looking forward to checking out your GT40! For some reason I thought it was going to be on the 18th... I will see you on the 11th.

Hi Rick,
Are those some type of anti-intrusion plates that I see mounted to the rear, lower control arm mounts or something you did on your own for aesthetic/ergo reasons? I hadn't seen them before...
