Roaring Forties # 61

Bill your car really is a cracker! Being Meblourne Cup time I feel it only appropriate to offer this encouragement as you near completion - "Go you good thing".

Hi Bill,

Wow, she looks sooooo good !

It seems like you are getting to the end of the fitout nasties - lights in, interior door latches, etc - all the really fiddly bits done. "Just" an engine to install !!

Once the car is in paint, you get a real incentive to keep on going - the reality of a 40 on the road is now not all that far away !

Well done mate !

Kind Regards,

Peter D.

The last of the nasties are just about done, ie the wiring to the efi fuel system.... Pain in the A
The dash will be going back in for the final(hopefully) time on Saturday, windscreens next Monday, engine and transaxle the following weekend - well at least that's the plan but you know how plans have a way of changing themselves....
Peter, I like the " 'Just' an engine " comment as I know what a pain that was for you. There are some unknowns there for me too which I get the feeling will turn expensive before too long:mad:
Below is a shot (fuzzy) of my completed engine (minus manifold).

Bill.

Bill,

Since you have just done the front dress on the engine perhaps you could answer a question for me. What bearing do the idler pullys ride on? I can't seem to find anyting that fits in the bags of parts for the idlers.

Hi Peter

The 2 idlers came with a whole bunch of nuts, bolts, brackets, a belt and 2 aluminium bearings for the idlers. The bearings were a very simple push in type, slightly different in length. I'll take some detailed shots and post for you

Peter

I checked the bearing and the boss that it rides on. The bearing is made by NTN Japan, part no: 6203LH

The boss is 21.97 millimeters in diameter. The drivers side idler on a LHD car has a slightly longer boss, which extends out the back of the idler by exactly 20 mm. The other one extends 12 mm.
I've attached a photo - the measurement is accurate.:D

Hope this helps

Bill

Well, the engine install took longer than I anticipated - I knew it would...
Thought I'd post a few shots to show its new heart....:D

I've bled the brakes, clutch, filled and primed the oil and filled the water system in the car. Final testing of all EFI items almost complete along with some minor finishes and hopefully I'll be able to start the damn thing this weekend.... Oh yeah - must remember till put some fuel in too :)

Thanks Danny and Paolo.

I started the car on Friday after a couple of days chasing gremlins, sorted my timing, some earthing problems, fuel pump hose connection, 1 water and 2 fuel leaks and finally it started!!!:D :D :D

Cosmetically I have a few more things to do but I can now see the next phase is upon me - ROAD TESTING rockonsmile

I think I'll change my signature to say "rumbling" now....

Well the car moves under it's own power now and I am on the verge of putting it on the street for testing.
It was perfect conditions to take some happy snaps, so whilst the car is not yet fully complete, this is what it looks like:

Bill - "How sweet it is" !!!!

Congrats on a top-notch build - it looks superb.

Do the plates (how cool) mean that you have rego ? If so, why do the pics show a GT40 in your driveway instead of just 2 wide black stripes ? :D

Way to go !!

Kind Regards,

Peter D.
