Safir trying to trademark GT40 shape???

I'm curious as to which GT40 shape they want to own. Just the MKI or all of interim shapes up to the final shape of the MKI. Or! would one consider the MKIV the final shape of the GT40.
Back in the '70's I had a law suit against me for copying a person's race car, a Chevron B16. My logo was a head on shot of a Porsche 917. I brought to court pictures of all the mid-engine race cars of that time period. The judge said after looking over all the pictures, " all these cars look the same to me!" "It's kind of a generic shape !" He threw the whole case out. I won! The funny thing was; I sold the guy the Chevron B16 body.

Steve, I do like your logic, specifically, let's try to go back to fundamentals about what's right and what's wrong. The trouble with that approach is that one person's right if very often another person's wrong. Hence, that's where the law (including copyright and trademark law) comes in as a best attempt by civilized society to apply some objective logic and create some predictability around what is commonly (as opposed to individually) accepted as right and wrong. Such a process is undoubtedly going to produce some anomalies here and there but overall it is functional and it is practical. And, in the application of the law there is going to reasonably be some debate, hence, yes, lawyers will debate the application and even the interpretation of relevant facts. But, that's just part of the richness of civilized debate, not an evil desire to run up a bill. Sorry to hear that you seem to feel the legal bills you have paid haven't been justified. All the attornies I know are genuinely interested in working diligently and professionally to produce equitable outcomes that reflect the spirit and the letter of the law, not simply do whatever it takes to generate a large bill.
