Painted the door bin satin black. Also finished preparing the rear clip and the air intake. Painted the rear clip engine bay area satin black too, pleased with the final result but it was a second attempt. First go I cut the paint at the end and it was too glossy. This time, I used 2500 w&d and I am pleased with the final result. I can now refit the clip and run the electrics.

Had the dash and the door panels leathered last week. I have to say I am really chuffed with the result, so thanks to John Cartlidge of CC Trim in Cheshire, he has done a great job.

Hi Ian
Really neat work, very impressive As I’m currently starting to lay out my dash.(I still haven’t decided whether to leather cover or have it flocked), I’m doing 2 sets of switch panels, as you’ve shown. However I’m bemused why you have a replacement switch panel for the right hand side of the dash (closest to the screen pillar). My understanding of the regs, is that this area is an exempt zone, so strictly speaking it doesn’t need to be changed post IVA, or have I missed something
Keep up the good work
Regards
Andy

Andy,
As far as I am aware you're right; the RHS is exempt. I could fit the RHS panwel now, and the holes in are in the exact same position

Andy,
Apologies for half a response, hit the enter key by mistake!! I was going to say that the holes in the RHS panel and in the main dash are the exactly same, so I could fit the RHS panel any time. I have left it off at this time simply so that the left hand and the right hand sides of the dash look similar. I went through the same thoughts as you, flock, leather or paint. I experimented with some flocking at home just to see how it looked, not withstanding that my home attempt would not be representative of a professional flocker, but it did give me a good indication as to how the final finish would be. I chose leather in the end because of how it would look, and the fact that it gives a little more sound deadening to the dash
Thanks
Ian

I am sure your eloquently chosen words had a typo and it was a compliment….
Thanks

P.S. Thanks for the post about C.C. Trim I have been intending to get a hood cover and new carpets for my Pre War car for years but had never done anything about it paid a visit to C.C. It would have been easier to trim the returned edge of the hatch and the rain channel return around the hatch hole to get the hatch level with the surounding body work. No filling required.

Also I noticed that the NACA vents are not fully trimmed. The easiest way to do it is to grind them open from the rear.

Thanks

Andy

Andy,
You’re right I could have made life easier, but I also wanted to put some filler in this area to firm it up and take out any of the small flex in the panel. Wrt to the NACE ducts, I wasn’t sure how big these should be so I cut them leaving a section around the aperture, but from what you describe they should be the full size of the aperture. I’ll have to enlarge these holes, but I’ll do this after the IVA.
Thanks
Ian

Continued the body work preparation. Skimmed the spider roof and the door roofs to get them all perfectly matched (correcting my installation errors!!). Also have been working on getting the doors gaps consistent (again, slightly over zealous when I originally trimmed them probably). Nearly there now, just a bit more work on the front section between the door and the front clip and the door bottoms, then I will take the doors off paint the insides, and then start on the interior. Got my leather seats a few weeks ago; looking forward to seeing them inside the car.

All the shut lines and door gaps finally finished. Also fitted the body clips and the panel locators.

Some more photos with the clips and doors open. Trial fitted the seats and the dash. Next job will be fitting out the inside of the car and finishing off the electrics
