SouthernGT Number 18

Exciting update time.......

No real progress as such but I now have an engine :D well almost, today I purchased a shiney new DSS 347 Stroker along with a couple of Edelbrock Performer RPM heads complete with roller rockers, not something I was intending on buying but got them for a good price so did not want to turn them down (suspension will have to wait a bit longer) should be good for a very reliable 400BHP all being well, just need to learn about engines now.... :worried:

It' a 1987 block so all good for IVA on visible smoke only I think?????

Anyway pics pics pics!

Well paneling the chassis is now nearly done, secretly quite chuffed with it as if I'm honest I was concerned I would run out of talent even before this stage was complete, but as far as I'm concerned so far so good...

Very very beautiful paneling, Paul. If you don't mind, would you give us short descriptions on every pictures. One day it will help me when I begin to build my GT40

Thanks Irvin

I don't think I can edit my posts now so to late, I'll see what I can do in future.

Well the chassis is pretty much done now, just one inspection cover to be mounted on the N/S sill in the morning :)
Also fitted hand brake lever and I collect the peddle box next week which is the next bit for me to fit, not gonna go quite as quick as I hoped in the next six months though as Mrs Paulbav has her eye on a caravan which will end up using a fair chunk of my remaining build money  so I will be funding the build hand to mouth sooner than I thought, but on the bright side it will save me loads on not having to pay for holidays abroad ;)

Thanks Mic

And a very kind offer, be careful though we may just take you up on it:thumbsup:

Well I decided I needed to raise my compression from 9.2:1, as was worried I would loose my low end torque, so old pistons out...

And new pistons in, this should get me up to 11:1, much better!

And heads on, not torqued yet though as need to get some sealant for the water jacket bolts.

Clean and beautifu as always, Paul. Two thumbs up. How many horse power do you want to build your engine?

Cheers Irvin,

I'm hoping for around 400bhp which I'm told by cleverer people than me should be fairly easy but time will tell.

I understand you are the latest SouthernGT owner, congratulations, a decision I'm sure you won't regret  Don't forget if you need any help I'm more than happy to pop over for a week or so, so long as you pay for the flights

Paul

Thank you Paul. Looks like you are the first to know it. Do not worry Paul, if I need you, surely I will entertain you with a first class service

I am planning on going to the UK next year and hope to meet you and Mick.

Great, you are more than welcome to visit and I only live 30mins away from Southern GT, can't wait to see your build start

Big thanks to Paul for taking time to chat with me and show me his build. Inspirational workmanship and something I'll be aiming to replicate.

Steve, Paul is showing me his efforts on Saturday AM. I'm planning on about a years time before I start.
