SouthernGT Number 18

Congratulation Paul, I have number 17 and you are doing better than me already ... no polo shirt :) All the best. Andrew

I saw your chassis last week, it was just ready for coating. Are you going to do a build thread? Be great see someone else going through a build and at a similar stage, though I bet you get done a lot quicker than me... What are your plans for it?

Hi Paul
Correction, I've check my chassis and number.. 16!! thought it strange has my is in the garage, just checked.

Not really into the IT thing (note my posts number) but if you need any photo's just ask, not to say I have it right!!
cheers
Andrew

Hello hello,

Well I managed another sneaky lunch time visit to see the friendly folk of SouthernGT :D they have been making great progress on my chassis and it looks like it will be finished well before I will be ready for it in April, I had originally planned to go with steel uprights from a cost point of view but have now decided to go with the alloy one as although they will cost more and therefore make my build time longer they just look so damn good, the rears being identical to the original ones

Also today my gear box was collected to be delivered to Chris Cole tomorrow for him to do his magic so looking forward to getting it back looking like new in the new year...

Update time :D

Popped in to have a look at my chassis today and as you will see good progress has been made

I also dropped off eight castors which I have asked Mick and the team to turn into a set of build stands.

Anyway the important bit here are the pics.....

Quick question, my gearbox is due back from Chris Cole any day now and is in need of a slave cylinder, should I opt for the sleeved version or will the standard be suitable for my needs??

If I were doingit again I would opt for a sleeved down one.
With the full size one it is a little over one inch diameter so takes a lot of fluid to move it enough to disengage the clutch. Couple that and the length of pipe required with the slave out back and master up front the resultant drag on fluid movement can cause clutch slip in hi rev high power gear changes.

Also run quarter diameter clutch line as opposed to brake line / narrower pipe

Thanks for the advice much appreciated however after talking to Mick (SouthernGT) he has assured me the non sleeved version will be more than adequate due the peddle design (or something like that), so that saves a few more quid ;)
Looking forward to getting the box back it should be quite a transformation....

Finished:thumbsup:

Just need to get my garage ready now..... note my rather nice build stands that that they have made for me :)

I think mick needs a bigger workshop, there stacking up like a pack of cards.
Today I fitted the OMP fire ext system and found that my clutch master cylinder is leaking, so I'll have to change that. Not a five minute job.
Weather is so cold I can't be bothered to do much.
When are you taking delivery of the chassis Paul ?

Paul, good to hear that another local guy is about. Just ordered my SGT from Mick. THink I am getting no.21. Yours is 18 he is not doing 19 (wants this for race car) and there is a car before me! I have to wait until April :-(. Good to see you are local and just ahead of me.

Hi Nick,

Great news indeed to have a fellow local builder  If it makes you feel any better I won't get mine until about April either  as still finishing my garage (currently looks like my previous pics:uhoh:) but hopefully four weeks from now give or take I will be somewhere close to it....
I am fairly sure you will end up way ahead of me before long though as I have a wife and two babies demanding my attention not to mention aspirations much larger than my budget and general lack of ability ;) . What are your plans for yours?

We shall have to catch up for a beer and a natter some time soon.

Cheers

Paul

Woohoo time for some gearbox porn.....

Got my box back this weekend for Chris Cole, to say I am happy would be a massive understatement, it looks like new!!! Chris has worked his magic on it and fully reconditioned it including replacing various clutch release and 1st motion shaft bearings, seals, slave cylinder and a massive amount of TLC all for a very reasonable price, I'll let he pictures do the rest of the talking.....

Wow very shiny I like bling lol. Our gearbox will go to Chris in a couple of weeks, will tie up to collect the engine block and pistons, and drop box up on the way.

We have a Ford V8 302 that is being stroked to 347 with alloy heads and Mick's old IDA Webbers. It is at huddart engines being bored at the moment that's why we will drop gearbox off when we go up and collect it.

Wow, that looks great. Looking around at the moment for a gearbox. I will use a 347 and have decided to use Micks IDA lookalike EFI system. Will have engine built to 450 to 500HP.

Is the box shot blasted? looks absolutley great.
