Syria

Anyone here think we should be taking more action in Syria? I only ask because it has been reported today that the US administration is considering 'further options' including arming the rebels.

Personally, I am a big no no here - the largest grouping might appear to be of an unacceptable political flavour which could come back and bite the West in the ass, and there's something a bit odd about this 'revolution'.

Sorry, but the current president doesn't know his tailend from a hole in the ground.

There are so many rebel groups that it will be hard to know who the good guys really are. It wouldn't surprise me if he did supply arms... Afterall they helped facilitate 1500+ illegal transfers to prohibited persons during Operation Fast and Furious.

I hope our government stays out of it. We have enough problems here, let alone abroad.

But if history teaches us anything, they won't. Heck, I hope we don't discover a planet with intelligent life, because our government would interfere and send OUR money there too.

Its funny how the president was complaining about sequester and how its supposed to shut down so much of the government, but now they are talking about just giving weapons away for free? I'm sure that's going to cost hundreds of millions.

We just need to stay out of it. In the end, our involvement will most likely amount to nothing...

Why the hell are we sticking our nose into these peoples affairs? The Muslim world, in general terms, seems to despise us and has no use for our belief system or culture. So if the Syrians need a savior why isn't it coming from their own very wealthy neighbors who share the same culture and belief system. I thought the UN was established to be the worlds policeman. Who elected us to that position. Is there some strategic reason for us to be interfering in their countries civil strife? If the guy next store is being robbed or is beating his wife, I feel a moral obligation to interfere because he is having an effect on my culture, my country, my way of life etc. -- Syria , not so much!

Obama's "Red Line" rhetoric was all bluff (which most of us knew from the get-go) - and al-Assad CALLED him on it. End of story.

Paraphrasing John's view above, in the end our involvement there would most likely change/avert/alter NOTHING. Look at what's going on in Iraq. Let the fools in Syria take care of themselves. If history has proven nothing else, it has proven that Muslim governments/countries are more trouble than they're worth.

Shoot, we don't even know WHO 'tis that make up the rebel forces - and we're going to give THEM arms??? 'Care to bet who'll end up with them? I'm still smouldering over giving planes and tanks to the Muslim radials running EGYPT...

Bengazi was all about shipping arms to Syrian rebels through Turkey. Get it now?
We've been doing this on the QT for quite awhile.

No we shouldn't. There are damn good arguments for staying out of there, even as bad as Assad and his gang of criminals are. We would be better off spending our time persuading the Russians and Chinese to twist his fucking arms off.

I think we need to stay out of there too..

Matter of fact, if I had my way, I would call all US Troops back to our own shores and call it a day. Let the rest of the world slug it out and just tell them to piss up a rope if they come here looking for help.

I saw this in Vietnam where people thought Vietnam would go back to a peace loving country with no problems if we would only pull out of there....

So how did we get roped into being there in the first place? Started around 1945 as I recall reading...

Stop trying to help others and help ourselves - we need all the help we can muster!!!

Exactly Mike... Syria would probably toss you a bag of rice and a "good luck" card...

If that!

This Jim did, and I think we should stay the fuck out of there. Down that path lies only ruin. Getting involved in Syria would be thankless, pointless, and ridiculous. As much as I condemn Assad, it's their war. It isn't ours.

Pete, you naughty boy - now we're probably gonna get an oral whoopin'

So, I must ask, if citizens agree that it is a stupid idea, why has there only been a muted reaction in the US?

What will you do if you wake up one morning and find that a heap of hardware has just been airdropped?

Would it not be better to be proactive for a change and contact your (insert elected govt politician title here) and let him know your views? It's OK having a mandate from the People to act on their behalf, but democracy in action should also allow government to hear the voice of the people on any one contentious issue....

I fear if America goes down this road - the world will become an even more dangerous place...
