Holy smoke Paul, considering you were in my car at the ring at 145 mph, I didn't know the risks I was taking considering all that damage you did to Roy's!

Cheeky sod!

The block damage was one of Roy's runs, although the diff was me and was in fact the crownwheel losing a tooth as I launched (or rather lunched)..

Found a video of one ot the wet runs on YouTube - bit boring really as it all seems a bit 'slow-motion' to be honest.
YouTube - Ford GT40 0-270 kmh Wet.wmv

Not sure who 'sebes427' is (the poster) but I guess he downloaded it from a club link at some point cos his text says 7000rpm, which it wasn't (I wish it had been!).

6200 RPM 165 MPH. 4.22 ring and pinion, felt great, slowed down to 100 and felt like I was dragging my feet. Need a 3.77 ring and pinion. Rev limit set at 6500 rpm.

Last year I put the car on a dyno and pulled an indicated 170 mph in 5th with another 1200 rpm to go. On the road, I haven't seen more than 125...

I did 187 mph on my bike one night. GPS verified by IPHONE.. LOL

I don't feel I have to do that again, at least on a bike..

260 kph on my VTR1000, which if I'm correct is 161 MPH, also very early in the morning, it was still accelerating as I ran out of road.

My guess, and I'm speaking from a position of total ignorance here, is that no road registered GT40 replica has done 200 mph. There are some high HP motors out there, but the aerodynamics are all against it, particularly front end lift.

+1. Totally agree with you on that Dalton. I'll shut up, but my personal experience has been that there's a whole wide world of difference between say 140-150 and 200mph. Things seem pretty calm and stable at 140, even 150....but when one approaches 180-190+ all kinds of stuff can (and does!) go wrong....including launching the front end, particuarly if there's any undulations in the road surface at all. I've seen 195-196 (GPS) in a highly modified turbo esprit and it was sssccccaaaarreeeyyyy to say the least.

It's easy to be an arm chair test pilot.

290Kph at Phillip Island on the motec. Bathurst may offer the opportunity to attack 300Kph which would be a nice milestone assuming I have the bottle to hang on !

So has anyone done 200+? in any car?

Cliff John Tiemann may have, I haven't talked to him since the Silver State open road race, he has been rrrrrrrrrreal close. I now for sure in the 190s. His GT40 is Australian built and has the Porsche transaxle with cooler for open road racing. He had problems with aerodynamics and added diffusers from the Ford GT, he was hoping this solved the problem. Unfortunately he doesn't follow this forum, he is a very good guy in person. Here are few shots of the diffusers.

I thought "Speed220mph" earned his screen name at Bonneville in his ERA, with passes in both directions, all official.

I highly doubt I will ever do it, but I really want the car 200+ capable. 26.2 inch rear tire, 0.77 5th gear with 3.36 final drive is 211 mph at 7000. If it's stable in the air and on the tarmac, I think it would be possible. But I doubt I have the nads to find out.

Edit: Looked it up, he only "managed" 217 average :)
