UK approved specs for Roll Cage

Hi folks,
As you can see form the picture, I have reached the stage of my P4 re-build, where I need to fabricate a steel roll cage.
Can anyone here advise me as to the correct spec and thickness of the steel tube that I will require to meet scrutineering for UK motorsport?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Mark, get the 2009 MSA "Blue Book" which describes the requirements you need,

To be MSA complaint mine is made from Dia 50 x 2mm CDS tubing. You can use 45 x 2.5mm, but this is heavier. As Frank says read the 'Blue Book' as how the cage is installed is an importanat as the materials used.

I thought you needed CDS2 tubing? But then I haven't done a roll cage from scratch. Suggest you get the blue book and talk to the guys who will give you the competition log book, ie scrutineers!

It is CDS2 tubing, my mistake. It was sourced from the RollCentre Racing at St Ives, so it is the correct material

Thanks for all those replies chaps. I shall order the Blue Book tomorrow.

In the meantime, it's back to fabricating all the new suspension pickups........ Great fun in this weather. So far the warmest I have managed to get the garage is +2*C

Hi Mark -

When you register for your 2009 MSA Licence, you will receive a copy of the current Blue Book with your licence. You can buy additional copies separately but as one is included you should not need to.

As a club we get a number of 'additional' copies issued to us so could forward you a copy in the meantime if required...

Blue book cost is about £24 (2008 price) if you just buy it instead of get it via a licence application. And in reality it will confuse the hell out of you! It does everyone else!
