Well well, who would have thought?

No, it's really weird Larry. I guess everyone was focused on CO2 and completely ignored the NOX. The French (among others) even received a significant discount for their fuel if they switched to diesel. unlike the UK Govt who, true to form, encouraged everyone to buy diesel and then putting the effing duty up way higher than petrol/gas, and like sheep, we all switched.

Can't solely blame the politicos on this one - we should have known better.

Now of course, they will try and legislate against diesel cars and people are going to lose a shed load of cash in the process.

Guess what I bought last week?

Don't laugh....

Yes Jack, I confess it was a bucket list job. As I covered the princely sum of just 530 miles last year, I have no idea why I bought it. I guess it was as much for my morale as anything.... :)

...not unlike the people who will pay thru nose for the LICENSE TABS on their "all electric" vehicles once there are enough of them on the road.

Oh, dear LORD, Keith! WHY?! There are sooooooooo many other cars that carry 5 PEOPLE and get about - or darned close to - the same mileage!!!:stunned::stunned::stunned:

Short answer. I no longer actively know 5 people or even four, three or two.

Of course I USED to, but they don't seem to come around any more.

I know David and Ian and PaulW from the Interweb and a couple of local people around here but not many. To be fair, I've only been here 20 years - not really long enough to know anyone.

I don't see my daughters or granddaughters more than once a month and my sister every 3 months, That's it really. No need for a charabanc now is there?

Time for a bit of selfishness mate. I've had it almost 2 weeks and only seen it twice, not even sat in it or driven it.

I've owned, raced and enjoyed all the highest horsepower vehicles of the day, so I thought, time for a change. No other reason.. :)

You never know, I might get bored with it and to this end, I am extending my security CCTV system so that I can stare at it at random intervals, that way it's guaranteed not to last long. Question is, what next?

Soon Pete, very soon but don't spoil it. Right now, I am having to decide on whether the No.1 cylinder goes under my balls or up in my ass crack...

There, the secret's out. Bugger :shifty:

I sat in my brothers new blue BMW I8 last Friday (just off the truck and not serviced). I thought it was hard to get in and out of the 40, but the BMW has a 'hump' you have to climb over to get in and out of. AND, there isn't a grab bar to get out of the thing. AND it only gets 25 miles on a charge. Pretty car, but I'll take the Mercedes.
The SMART cars aren't selling well in the states. Sells are declining are a fast rate. I guess those who wanted one bought their cars earlier. I think most are concerned about head on or rear end collision. But how can you tell if it was a rear end or head on collision? Be careful with the thing....

He is about to shoe-horn a hyabusa engine and aircon into it. The Bose sound system he has bought is going to have a problem with the speakers and I've suggested he can drill the roof and mount them out side with a washing up bowl inverted over each one. I believe the gear box he has in mind will be a trick paddle switch type with drive shafts from a McLaren F1. The tyres will all go to 10 inch wide as well with huge wheel arches.

Aww, you promised not to tell David...

So, the USA hate Smart Cars eh?

Hardly surprising since you don't actually need them.

Bit of fun though...The Hayabusa is a drop in - not much bigger than the Merc 3 cylinder.

To be honest, I thought my chances of being rear ended whilst enduring a frontal assault had all but faded with my advancing years Grady, but you've given me hope.. :)

Larry, I'm sorry mate. I know exactly what that is and I am not going to open it. In fact if you don't mind, I am going to delete it. It has no place here mate but thanks for the warning. A written one would have done though, I have great imagination..

No at all a problem, Keith.

'Just wanted to 'clue you in'.

The "Smart Car" is nothing more than a motorcycle with a roof and doors...affording the same 'occupant' protection.

A a city wizzer I think they are great little cars

'No question about that at all. But, as I suggested to Keith (in the deleted post), I wouldn't take one out on a freeway e-v-e-r!

...As for crash resistance I think this clip from from an old fifth gear says it all.

Notice they didn't show a two car head-on collision of any kind at 70 mph (= 140 mph into a concrete barrier)...or even 60 (= 120) or 50 (= 100). THOSE are 'real world' crash scenarios. Ya, cars collide with concrete walls, etc., but, 'head-ons' at speed are far more common.

I wouldn't want to be in a S.C. in such cases.
