Wiper motors

Has anyone used a marine wiper motor for their car? I see AFI sells a self contained unit that has adjustable sweep, self parking, etc. Does not look too bad, a no-brainer install. It's probably a one-speed, but I'm not going to go out in the rain on purpose, so I'll be using it only if I get caught.

I had looked at this one a while back, not sure if it will work, but it seems flexible for sweep and parking options.

Guys

Please check but I believe you want in the region of 130 / 135 degree sweep

Sandy's link maxes at 110 degree

Dont know were you live Brian but some road regs stipulate 2 speed required even if you dont go out in the rain .
I dont think variable counts.

Check before you buy.

Good to know Ian. Do you know what the sweep on the Lucas units are? Those seem to be the most common for the cars (Mostly due to Cobra availability I guess).

[Edited]

I found the info on the SVC's web site, they have 90 and 130 degree gear wheels for the lucas.

I seem to recollect that in another thread someone suggested Fiat Uno. I'm about to check that one out soon.

Gentlemen:
This was a topic a while ago, and I found a unit from specialtypowerwindows.com that has adjustable sweep, it looks a lot like the Lucas unit with the push-pull cable drive, and I believe has adjustable sweep, park location, and two speeds.
Cheers

Just going to bring up an old thread again. :)

I was browsing ebay for various bits and came across this beasty, 12v, 120 degrees, two speed with park for ~£60 (or $60). Currently ebay item 140564448870

Power Source 12V DC; High Speed Amp 1.5A, Low Speed Amp 1.0A; Fused at 3Amp.
Interchangeable Sweep Angles of 83-100-110-and 120 Degrees.
2 Speeds with Self-Parking.

Uses TMC Splined SS Wiper Arm: TMC-00010H 14" or TMC-00047H 16"

Suitable or not?

Good wiper. The SL-C guy's (most of us) are using a similar one from
AFI part number MRV 34001 with a 1.5 inch shaft. Similar spec to the one you presented.

It is a 2 speed motor with 80 degree sweep.

Or 110. Or 45 or 60, as well. The AFI motor is user-adjustable for sweep - you can change the sweep by moving the pin into different, pre-made holes.

Or you can create your own holes to get any sweep you need. I did this when I thought I needed 94.5 degrees.

The plate is also able to be flipped, so the parking can be made to happen on either side, without the need to move the motor itself.

This is the standard motor for the SLC now (the AFI 34001 or 34000) and all kits have been shipping with it for some time now.

It also works on the RCR 40s as well, as Howard Beck has developed it for his car.

Cheers guys.

Looking at the pictures looks identical to the AFI, probably comes in different size shafts too.

Seems it has a lower stall torque (once I got them in the same units, 86.79lb-in against 109lb-in) but then its seems from a quick look to be ~£200 cheaper! Do I need that extra 30lb-in in my wiper motor? I doubt it seeing as its 18w and the normal recommendation seems to be a 14w.

So 2in or 1.5in shaft?
Does Howard have a build thread?

Memory Blank from me, they will just do you a GT40 kit if you ask.

As for the other. I would check with Darren on the clearance etc. Remember the normal way of doing things is to have a remote motor and then drive. It is very tight under there.
