917 replica (LMK)

Ok, it's not RCR, it's not accurate, impossible to race it, but it's still nice...

Ottokar owns a real 917/10 and 2 replicas (gulf and martini livery)

this video show both replicas on street....flat6 engine, flat fan...
the only problem is the engine sound.....street regulations

Welcome to WerkzCars "Manufacturer of the Porsche 906 and Kraftwerkz LMK 917 replica"

Yep, on kraftwerks car the fan is electric and not installed on the engine....

some of the kraftwerks customer had installed some horizontal flat fan (from 935/935 porsche engine, or from second sources like SpezialMotorer-Engine Development or ProMotive Engineering - www.promotive.com.au)

I don't know the price of the mecanical flat fan, but i think if I had to build a 917 replica it would be a must.....

Do you know how much the Flat-Fan set-up is?

That's crazy money---it's only there for show!!!

They say
So we are confident to use it, to cool our high performance and high valued Porsche engines of anything to about 600hp twin turbo's. Keeping in mind that the fan revs up to speeds of 10500 rpm on the race track. Kit ideal for recreation models such as 935 imsa, 917 and even early version 962 engines. Note that this is not a look alike fan. It is an actual working part that is responsible for the air cooling on the Porsche engine.

Not that I'm saying that its cheap though........

Cheers

Aren't these Porsche engines water cooled?

Heads only IIRC, plus remember that most air cooled stuff has the oil cooler playing a very large part of the overall cooling system. As for cost- if you cannot engineer a system of your own to work in that application, then that is what it will cost you to join the 'club':) Just think though, it might take you a couple of attempts & meltdowns to get it right!!!

I'm on the verge of touching myself inappropriatel
Yeah I believe the heads are the only watercooled parts of the Porsche engines. At least on the 911 series. I could be mistaken though, I'm not a Porsche expert by any means. BUT, that would mean that you couls run the stock oil cooler location way up front and 2 radiators there on the sides where those big NACA ducts are. That should give you all the cooling you'd need.

At least from what I know. LOL Maybe I should have stayed quiet...

Brian

Up thru the 911 model 993 which ran from 95 to 98 the engines were air/oil cooled. The 996 and 997 series cars were totally water cooled. The 956/962 series race cars featured water cooled heads, but I think the rest of the engine was oil cooled. They needed the water in the heads to help make the high horsepower they did. The 962's were either single or twin turbo motors mostly based on 3.2 liters displacement.
