Aussie RCR T70 capers

We scrounged the Chevy LS6 5.4 L from the guy that did the exhaust system, then found some CNC machined heads for it and with that came the Edelbrock dual plane intake and MSD topped by a Holley 650 DP race carb (no Choke)inc. 1" spacer. Had to unload the "winged" Corvette sump for a Camaro one, then added an oil cooler and Accu sump --thats it, all bone stock, dyno tuned with 405 hp at the wheels .
We are using a 930 Porsche Trans that came with the kit from RCR which is coupled to the motor by a standard "BNC Products" adapter kit and custom hydraulic clutch actuation unit .
* Drive line is standard 930 CVs and custom length axles
* Wheel hubs are all Corvette C4
* AVO shockers adjustable bump and rebound
* 650 Lb springs front and 550 Lb rear
* 7/8"dia. sway bar front and 5/8"dia bar rear
* PWR ally radiator
* Willwood brakes 6 piston F & 4 R, Hawk pads
* Tilton pedals
* Wheel alin'm't-- F 3°camber, ~=6°caster, 1mm toe in
R 2° camber ? caster , neutral toe ?

Its brilliant at cornering and we haven't dialed in or fine tuned anything yet

The whole package just seems to be ideal, as is

Gear ratios --1st too low, 2nd low, 3rd just right, 4 th a bit tall, I think

Good luck at the UTTC Ron --we'll be watching with much interest:thumbsup:

that looks to be going very well in the footage, nice one.
this is very interesting to compare your setup etc and spec to my GD T70 replica. I am also running an LS6 with a carb conversion, no one else in the UK has done this yet as far as i know with their T70 kit. I am using the msd 6010 box and a demon 750cfm race carb, and an ARE dry sump.

i use 750lb rear springs and 500lb fronts on protech shocks, and havent gone quite as strong on the camber and castor settings , mine being -2deg front and -3/4 deg rear.

what size tyres do you run?

mine is also about 870-900kg and about 405bhp @ wheels.

i havent as yet tried any other suspension alignment figures so there might be some gains to be made yet.

Hey twin (you must be my 6th degree)--I've been watching your progress for a while, I think we have the same car body shape.
Our suspensions maybe quite different which might account for the variance in figures--Aussie roads and tracks are pretty rough compared to other countries I suspect ? probably accounts for the aggressive settings
Tyres (proper spelling) Hoosier R6, 225 50 15 F and 275 50 15 R

Pete,
I need to revisit Lakeside soon, but wasn't sure if this thing (read : demoraliser) was going to give me a confident feeling --'cause you need to be 100% confident in your ability and equipment to tackle this track --so far i feel 99.8% confident in it.
Just got to save up for some petrol now

Chris,
I think the bodies are pretty close as the moulds I have are the original Heritage moulds from the UK, and at some point in time the previous owner , Bob Usher Sparks had some business relationship with Andy Burrows of GD
I also have wider rear flares available for the big wheel brigade...

These really are pretty little cars....

Wide rear flares eh, hmmmm --- might have to go again for mk2 thinking more CanAm, 14" slicks, LS7 Kinsler stacks, got a trans and a few other bits lying around (just dreamin' ):laugh:

I suspect you'll be more than happy with the tires that are on the car an the normal body shape.

We didn't find the alignment similar to yours worked out well for us. We were monitoring tire temps and ended up bringing the camber down from what we started at, which was similar to yours, like -2.5 in the front and -1.75 in the rear. I think we're down to around -1.5 in the front and -0.75 or so in the rear, although I'd have to check the notes for the precise figures.

These are really fun little cars. We're looking forward to having ours out for back to back weekends in mid-July up at VIR. Lola Spyders have a nice simplicity about them that lend themselves to being good track cars.

Ron, It sure is a fun thing to drive, just point and shoot --absolutely no under steer or push and no over steer -- guess that means drive faster then.
What spring Lb'age are you running , tyre pressures, sway bars?
And don't heed my setting figures too much yet as they were only done with a spirit level,straight edge and calculator:blank:

Our first two track outings were done with springs in the 400 lb range. These were too soft for sure.

Our last testing round was done with some 650 lb front springs and some 550 lb rear springs. Front bar about 7/8" or 1" in diameter, no rear bar. The car was doing well but we had two problems:

*Rear ride height was too high and was causing the lower radius rod to contact the chassis thus lifting a wheel. It also creates higher than I'd like half shaft angles.

*F/R brake bias was incorrect with too much rear braking action.

We've corrected these two problems. We also have some stiffer springs that we can try if we wish, some 1000 lb front springs and 850 lb rear springs. We're setting the car back up over the next week and we'll see what we have.

Hi Fran
i think mine is also from the original heritage moulds, no wonder they do look like twins! i am running 335/30/18s at the rear on 12" rims. my fronts are 245 or 255's which do come pretty damn close to the front arches. my understanding is that Andy had to rework the front arches to get them through SVA/IVA road regs over here, so there might be some slight differences at that end.

very interesting stuff, best looking car ever imho:thumbsup:

again very similar here, we set mine up with a laser floor leveller, some pads and string, pencil and paper! :laugh:
i find mine is very neutral on track, it turns in very well, does slightly understeer on road tyres but not on cut slicks. have adjustable front and rear roll bars still set very mild at the minute. your rear tyres seem pretty narrow at 275?

thats mine about a month ago, not the best video in the world tho.

do you find yours will power oversteer purely on throttle in tight bends? mine will break traction at will despite 335 mm rears in 2nd and sometimes 3rd in the dry.

if you have any incar footage please post it up, would love to see how it looks from that angle, and some static pics?
thanks

i think i would also end up with much higher rate springs if mine were raced, at the minute 500lb front is a bit soft and it does dive a little, i can see much harder rate springs working for track use, mine are based on road springs and road ride heights as a bit of a compromise.

Aaah, brakes -- we have residual valves-- taken out the rears, left the fronts in, (my master reservoir is higher than the calipers)
master cyl. front is .625" dia and rear is .700" and balance bar for bias

You can't Chris, that's what I want to do. - CANAM style, track only car. When I get the GT40 and the Daytona sorted that is. I am still undecided on GD or RCR T70. And I really like the mk2 body from Toluka lake motorsports too.

Still waiting on the new motor for the Daytona from Kieth Craft. - So much for one week delivery by air freight. It has been a month now since it was apparently "sent".

All the best.
Ricky.

+1 -- Mk2 spyder body, RCR chassis, proper lola wheels, Chev Ls 6 or 7 - Kinsler stacks , 930 modded short shift dog box or G50 or ZFQ or Hewland sequential.
If I was to do anothery this would be the basic spec
Now is the time to buy Rick, cause of the strong Au$$ie

i have been out in the LS7 powered GD T70 which was to be honest a bit mental, with kinsler throttle bodies and nearly 700bhp. :thumbsup:
that had the gt2 box and was mentally fast. possibly a bit too much to be honest.
this is it going round the ring.

my ideal spec would be probably 500-600bhp at most in mine, i dont think i would need any more than that!

are the 930 boxes similar to my G50/03?

Great vid, that guy is hauling a**, boy coming up on painfully slow traffic at those speeds AAAhHHHh. Very easy to have one of them step in the way and ruin your life. Too ifffy for me.

The open top Lolas rock, if I had a track only car it would be topless.
