Wait a bit, I thought the walrus WAS Paul........

Arm the Syrian Oppos, by all means, but Jesus don't get us in another goddam foreign war. Please. Even if we get to pick out the lamp post for Assad, who certainly deserves one. Or maybe gas him with his own chemical weapons.

Waste of a perfectly good MD degree, to give it to that son of a bitch. I am professionally offended.

"I Am The Walrus is also one of my favorite tracks-because I did it, of course, but also because it is one of those that has enough little bitties going to keep you interested even a hundred years later(JL1974). It's from The Walrus and the Carpenter, Alice In Wonderland. To me, it was a beautiful poem. It never dawned on me that Lewis Carroll was commenting on the capitalist system. I never went into that bit about what it really meant, like people are doing with The Beatles' work. Later I went back and looked at it and realized that the Walrus was the bad guy in the story, and the Carpenter was the good guy, I thought, 'Oh shit, I've picked the wrong guy.' But that wouldn't have been the same, would it? I am the Carpenter...'(JL1980) We saw the movie in L.A. and the Walrus was a big capitalist that ate all the f**king oysters. I always had the image of the Walrus in the garden and I loved it, and so I didn't ever check what the Walrus was. He's a f**king bastard-thats what he turns out to be. But the way it's written, everybody presumes that means something. I mean even I did. We all just presumed that because I said 'I Am The Walrus' that it means 'I Am God' or something. It's just poetry, but it became symbolic of me (JL1970)."

If a country wants to democractically elect Islamic fundamentalists, what do you?

You honor their choice, whether you agree with it or not, because that is the way democracy works.

Chisel my name onto the wall, too, please....my family has a history of military engagement and I know my father, who was a WWII ace, would absolutely be livid over the way we are squandering our soldiers' lives in countries where we have absolutely no chance of effecting lasting change for the better. Let them go at each other, bring our Americans, Brits, Aussies, all of the troops home and leave them to destroy each other (although, I must admit that my urge for revenge still whispers in the other ear "Can't you at least give the more acceptable nutjobs, the lesser of the two evils, a few nukes????")

Cheers!

Say Doug,

Wasn't John Lennon a Liberal, Socialist, Communist?

So now, just in the last few days, Mr Fechter has quoted MSNBC, Pravda and now John Lennon...................................I'm afraid he's either becoming a Liberal, or he is loosing it!

On the other hand, I know how much he hates losing, maybe he has just decided to join the winning side?

I'd like to send this one out, you know, dedicate this one to the "real" Walrus.

You walk into the room
With your pencil in your hand
You see somebody naked
And you say, "Who is that man ?"
You try so hard
But you don't understand
Just what you'll say
When you get home.

Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?

You raise up your head
And you ask, "Is this where it is ?"
And somebody points to you and says
"It's his"
And you says, "What's mine ?"
And somebody else says, "Where what is ?"
And you say, "Oh my God
Am I here all alone ?"

But something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?

You hand in your ticket
And you go watch the geek
Who immediately walks up to you
When he hears you speak
And says, "How does it feel
To be such a freak ?"
And you say, "Impossible"
As he hands you a bone.

And something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?

You have many contacts
Among the lumberjacks
To get you facts
When someone attacks your imagination
But nobody has any respect
Anyway they already expect you
To all give a check
To tax-deductible charity organizations.
You've been with the professors
And they've all liked your looks
With great lawyers you have
Discussed lepers and crooks
You've been through all of
F. Scott Fitzgerald's books
You're very well read
It's well known.

But something is happening here
And you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?

Well, the sword swallower, he comes up to you
And then he kneels
He crosses himself
And then he clicks his high heels
And without further notice
He asks you how it feels
And he says, "Here is your throat back
Thanks for the loan".

And you know something is happening
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?

Now you see this one-eyed midget
Shouting the word "NOW"
And you say, "For what reason ?"
And he says, "How ?"
And you say, "What does this mean ?"
And he screams back, "You're a cow
Give me some milk
Or else go home".

Because something is happening
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?

Well, you walk into the room
Like a camel and then you frown
You put your eyes in your pocket
And your nose on the ground
There ought to be a law
Against you comin' around
You should be made
To wear earphones.

Cause something is happening
And you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?

The funny thing is for Dylan, guys like Lonesome Nutjob ARE Mr. Jones.

Your fascination with counterculture sociocommiehippie musicians is rather ironic, no?

I'm really more of a Desolation Row kind of guy:)

Jeff, you mentioned "ironic", quoting Mr Zimmerman in a thread about bombs and WMDs.......

Hmmm, a lot of musical references here......next, someone will be asking me if I've seen his wife.........and then he'll want me to pass him the bottle. No, I don't own a basketball.
Anyway.... as for the original thread, I think the real problem would be having these gas bomb chenicals fall into hands other than Assad. A hundred pounds/kgs or whatever of sarin in a subway or mega-mall would be a major catastrophe.

That's a pretty standard Faux News view of the world. Let's turn back to reality.

OK Jeff, lets “get back to reality”.
1. Libya and Tunisia are actually mostly successes. Low loss of American life (4), no American soldiers on the ground and reasonable Islamic democracies.

-Are you serious??? The torture/murder of Mr. Kaddafi and four Americans is reflective of a "reasonable Islamic democracy"? The four deaths were somehow acceptable? The Obama administration has in no way acted nobly here and they are still trying to craft their story as to what happened.

2. In Egypt, the Egyptians elected the Muslim Brotherhood. Are you saying we should overthrow their democratically elected regime? Is that your position? I don't think what Obama has done there is any different than any other President would have done. Our only option is to continue to fund the military as a counterbalance to the Brotherhood.

-You’re erroneously editorializing my comment. Mr. Obama botched this from the outset and “led from behind” in Egypt trying to pick a projected winner to support.

Leading From Behind : The New Yorker

And as I’ve noted previously with the “execution by drone” policy of Mr. Obama, compliance with law isn’t a constraint felt by Mr. Obama. You accuse me of wanting to overthrow Mr. Morsi but haven’t expressed any concern over the Obama administration’s support of the overthrow of Mr. Mubarak as well as Mr. Assad in Syria. Both have been "democratically elected". (I’ll save you a response on this one- “Yea like George Bush was in 2000”.)
You want to “… continue to fund the military as a counterbalance to the Brotherhood.” Jeff, Mr. Morsi is the brotherhood’s candidate and his imposition of dictatorial powers in support of their aims is what’s causing the current unrest.

3. Iraq? Keep troops there? No. And 10,000 troops would have stopped nothing. A clean break was needed, and we got it.

-Wrong! This could have been a turnaround (unlike Mr. Obama's "good war" in Afghanistan) similar to South Korea. Do you think for a moment that without U.S. troops there the North Koreans would have stayed on their side of the border for the last fifty years? Like South Korea, there is both culture and resource infrastructure in Iraq that could have made it a future economic power. I've been there and Mr. Obama screwed the pooch on this one with the failure to secure a SOFA. Geopolitically with the instability in Iran and Pakistan and our dependence on the security of SWA, like Korea, a stabilizing force would have been in the U.S. and Iraqi national interest and Mr. Obama pissed away the opportunity.
The place we have no business in is Afghanistan. You can read my previous post on the matter if you are so inclined.

4. In 4 years, we've wound down one war, are starting to wind down another, have repaired our relationships with our allies in Europe, and managed the Arab spring.

-"Managed the Arab Spring"????? Hint: Libya is a disarray of tribal factions, the Egyptian ruler seeking to impose Sharia Law has rioting in the streets, Hamas has won a major U.N. victory (over U.S. objections), Israel is resumed building settlements on the West Bank (over U.S. objections) and HAMAS has launched more missiles at Israel THIS YEAR than Hitler did to the U.K. in all of WWII. Oh yea, Mr. Assad is weaponizing Sarin nerve agent for use on his own people.

That is a "Qualified success for the President on that front"???? Yikes!

Forget Fox News, you need to quit watching Al Jazeera. You are obviously in the tank for Mr. Obama but come on...

What a rambling mostly incoherent mess. You really need focus, not Fox. I like that!

1. Yes, LIbya and Tunisia as reasonable successes. Democracies, Islamic but democracies. Far better than they were recently. And the Libyan government didn't kill Ambassador Stevens.

2. Eqypt. Lots of rant, not much substance by VeekNews. Mubarak was out one way or the other regardless of what we did. The question was who replaced him? A democacy or the military? Egypt now has a democracy just one we don't like. And so we are funding its political opponents rather than attempting to over throw it.

Morsi, although problematic, was democractically elected. Hassad and Mubarak were not.

3. Syria. Same. NO American troops there. So what is your point?

4. Iraq as South Korea? I just spit Pepsi on the comptuer screen. Here's a simple singular fact for you: South Koreans WANT the US there. Iraqis do not. Did you miss that? And the stream of body bags coming back from Iraq?

That's the reality. I know it doesn't fit with your irrational Obamahate, but it is what it is. And quite honestly, you'd have a much more fair and balanced view of the world from Al Jazeera than watching THings Republicans Make Up to Make Themselves Feel Better...wait I mean Fox News.
