Frankly - I don't think media reporting has been worth a crap since these days:

Even then, there were times that they were just gagged...
Accepted by the people of the day??? You must not have been around or watching the news in the 60's and 70's... They were outraged! I won't get into what Hanoi Jane did for us, but we were spat on, called baby killers, shunned from what seemed like every corner of the Earth and made to feel like anything but heros or protectors of freedom... There were demonstrations in literally every city in America and Europe etc..
My point was that for the most part, news was not created in ivory tower offices, it was simply reported from the fields.. Tom Jennings, Dan Rather, Walter Cronkite and dozens more were true reporters. They slept in fox holes with us, ate the same rations as us, shared their time with us. They were just as scared and brave as we were. There were atrocities yes, but by and large the public was never allowed to see them. Some haunt us still many years later..
To the point though - the media today sells and does today only what drives their ratings up and now what drives their click-streams up.. Seemingly all but FOX NEWS decided that enough was enough and held back on making that video public... I hope that the @hole at Fox that made that choice does not lose his job, because if he does, he will likely go and infect yet another news organization and that will only make matters worse. As of right now, FOX NEWS is not welcome in my home..
