5.4?

fran at rcr put a 4.6l in my gt40. heads are so big it barely fit! couldn't close the rear deck though. extensive body work would be required. then: ah the headers: the angle of the head makes it very(!) difficult to install any headers.

the cast iron block is 108 lbs heavier than the alum block. if you look for a '93 or older
Lincoln mark viii, you will find that those blocks ford used were made by teksid, an italian company that makes blocks for Ferrari. according to sean hyland, these blocks can make up to 2000 hp. whereas the windsor or romeo(?) blocks (american) can only take up to 1200 hp.
if you want, i will look up the photos fran sent me before he yanked it out.

check out the roaring forties site they build a stock car with the 5.4ltr in it,so the chasssis is already built to take the engine.

The 4.6 seems an easy fit now that we have done the 5.4 which is a little tighter but plenty of room in the RF to work on all the parts.

Attached pic I think is on other posts but shows std compliance inlet and exhaust packaging.

Here are a couple of photos of my RF40 MKII with a 4.6 mod motor. It fits easily and it's an aluminium Teksid block thats light wheight. More than enough power for anyone and it's so easy to drive.

It will not fit in a SPF without cutting the frame, I digitized a 4.6 cobra motor as that is what I wanted in my SPF and believe me there is a hugh difference, after cutting the front and rear dxf file of a 4.6 out with a laser I put in the car and the head is to wide and the exhaust comes out in the wrong place. Here is a picture of a windsor block motor on the left and a 4.6 on the right. In my opinion it would be a great combo if it would fit.

i know the 4.6 wont fit. 4 valve heads are too big. the 5.4 uses a conventional head, 2v.
ive already built a 4.6 that got 540 at the wheels on pump gas. im not abt to do that again....

anyway, if i get a used mk2 with a 427, ill def fuel inject it and see how that works out.
 
IMHO it would be difficult to get either into a brand of replica other than the SPF, which "might" take the 5.4, it seems. There's not much room between the engine and the bulkhead for a centrifugal huffer...

Now, the SL-C, on the other hand...........hmmmmmmm..............

oops, youre right....theres not much room up front for a centrifugal huffer.
a roots style would fit as long as you have clearance on top...
of course, b4 doing anything, engines, S/C, i would measure everything up very carefully.
not sure i would want a roots style blower with a 427....way too much torque down low.
although that could be fun too.
 
Fran has all the goods to hook the LS7 up to the ZF, the P-car boxes, or as I am doing, the Ricardo. If you must have big power, a simple cam swap and the LS7 is making 650 hp. I did not opt to go that far, as I am thinking the Kinsler stack and LS7 will push me to 575 or so (stock LS7's usually dyno at about 550 from what I here).

It's not just the motor size, but where the weight is. The 5.4 is already top heavy, with a blower it will be like a pendulum.

But I agree with your concept of having something different, which is why I did what I did. At this time, I think I have the only GT40 with an LS7/Ricardo combo.

as a former zo6 owner, i can tell you the stock ls7 does not make 550 at the crank. they are pretty consistent at around 505-515. they dynojet at abt 445 at the wheels. a tune adds abt 30hp to the wheels.
a built ls7, like from katech will net u 650 at the crank naturally aspirated.
thats a 30k dollar engine direct from katech. a bit pricey for my blood.
well...not so much my blood, but my bank acct.
awesome engine though....power everywhere and revs to 7100rpms.
good gas mileage too.
 
Hey 'The new roaring forties', that install looks awesome. How did u plump the outlet and the oil to water cooler if u dont mind me asking? Did you guys use a remote thermostat as the motor hasnt got one in the block. I cant find any information on how the system is plumbed in the mustang..

The local thermostat housing mounts at the front top of the 5.4 in the Falcon but we have inverted it and mounted down behind the rad pipes in the RF40.


The 4.6 in the Mustang has a remote thermostat housing which we use and mount in the same spot in RF4.6's for packaging reasons, that is, down near the rad pipes.

What are you trying to do with the car? If you are trying to have a show car, a Ford engine will only do, If you want to enjoy it and drive it around town, anything will do and the vette engine would be a great runner. A light weight 302 with lots of rpm for track would be cool. I have a 700 hp engine in my CAV and just too much torque. Not very driver friendly at all. my 2c
 
my buddy builds race engines...
he has a bored and stroked 390. he says the block is the same as the 427 so everything should match up/bolt up just like the fe engine.
he built the same one for his cobra. makes 625hp, (crank) peak tq at 3500 and remains flat to 7100rpms.

will that new mendeola trans work in the spf??
