Thorium has been around a long time. When it's cheaper than coal, LNG, solar, wind, and hydro, plants will be built. Until then, it's not commercially viable.

Sorry I missed the bit about the batteries and night production. SO........don't forget the batteries and what to do with the waste generated from their production as well as the solar panels.

What do you do with the batteries when they die? All kinds of hazardous waste. If wind wasn't subsidized there wouldn't be wind power. They never pay for themselves, Leak oil and kill birds. There will always be fossil fuel of some type.

So you are still here, and still wrong eh? Wind has made many people in this country wealthy since I last popped in here to read the tired old white guy BS. Wind is likely to be 30% of the power grid shortly (from 10% in 2021). 57% of Iowa's power comes from wind. Hell in Texas its 20%.

Wake up old man. The world is a changin'.

My father in law worked on the ITER project for years aswel on JET in the UK (Oxford) and CERN at the FOM institute in Holland.
ITER is an expirimental Tokamak reactor.
"If" a Tokamak reactor is the green energy answer.
It will take decenia or more before Tokamak reactors will suply energy to the world population.
I always found it very interesting stuff.

Tokamak reactors require loads of lithium, where there already is a shortage of lithium as EV's (cars motorbike bycycles kicksteps etc) and even tool batterys all have lithium battery packs. Thats interesting for future Tokamak reactors.

In my opinion, to reach a goal, you'll need to experiment. Experiments can lead by its outcommings to a total change of plans. ITER is still an experment. But promising.

please show somewhere that is actively recycling the wind turbine blades ata end of life?
and post details of a factory that is able to commercially recycle the Li batteries from cars….without huge toxic waste footprint. (Not saying they cannot be recycled but do it commercially I have not found anything to invest in as it will be a required industry.)

Al's point was the nonsense that people wouldn't be building wind farms without subsidies. As you live in the UK I'm sure you realize that is 100% false.

We do have a wind farm tax credit here in teh US but it's not why wind farms are built. They are built because with our without the credit they make sense financially and socio-economically.

Now to your point, from your own utility National Grid:

So NINETY SIX percent of a wind turbine is recylable. And it's mostly just old fiberglass blades that are not, and we are working to fix that. But even with those blades, it's no worse than throwing away your Corvette or Esprit or GT40.

I'm with you on batteries for EVs. It's an environmental cost that needs to be dealt with. But that wasn't Al's incorrect point that he's been spouting for years despite being corrected over and over.
