Candidate for an oil change....

Hi guys,

Apropos of nothing, here's some photos of a early 1970s Ford 302 that was donated to me to serve as the foundation for an engine build for my GT350 clone. It came out of a Fairlane or something with over 100K miles on it; apparently the owner NEVER changed the oil!!!

BTW, after seeing the inside of this motor, I decided to pass on it, and subsequently got a wonderful Mexican 302 block with the Hi-Po main bearing caps; my 331-inch short block is together and the rest of the motor should be finished soon.

That is what a large % of the motors that came into NZ as rebuilders looked like inside, in fact I have seen them so bad that the 'goop' is a virtual replica of the inside of the rocker cover. While many went out the door as runners the 'new owners' were soon back for another as being kind by changing oil to a better grade with some detergent value was the kiss of death to them in this condition..
