Amazing build Urs. Thank you very much for taking the time to share it with us.

Have you considered using Carbon wheels? They would be a lot of work to design and manufacture yourself but there are companies that sell them for "only" 10.000$ or so.

I don't know which size the wheel is but they claim only 2.76kgs for this one:

Weight for these is: Fronts are 19x9 (17.4 lbs) and rears are 19x11 (19.4 lbs)...

Don't you think that alloy wheels could take a bit more abuse. A simple nick in the carbon when mounting tires could prove a disaster at speed. IMHO.

They are pretty though!

A friend of mine has Galfer Carbon wheels on one of his bikes and has just got some Dymags for another - SERIOUSLY LIGHT!! and definately look the mutts!

Would be great to see some on a 40... :thumbsup:

Some idea of weight pre/post tyre fit would be cool too.
 
Hi Urs...I have to stop cheking this build site, I,m getting some crasy idea's. But seriously, a friend of mine owns a "Grp B Metro 6R4" and during the 2yr rebuild they made a lot of body panels, bash plates and other stuff from CF and hand layed it all the same as using Glass fibre. Is it the same method or are there special treatments such as vacum or heat that gives CF its ultra strength. What I'm trying to say is, I have done a lot of glass fibre work with great results, could those skills work for me with CF or are there special things I would need to Learn. cheers Leonmac

working with cfk or gfk is not a great difference you can vacumate both of them, when it s necessary.we dont work with pre preg , we have no autoclave and for us it s not necessary to have one in the moment.Not everything is better when you work with pre preg ,it also have its downside.
When you have high loaded parts, you have always to look,how you put the layers in the form,you can take a lot of different webbings,rowings,and also cfk,gfk or afk on the right place.

here some pictures from laminating the second side of the ribs.
You see the pre cutted layers,then the laminating is finished and it s covered with, i think in english peel ply , i hope it s the right word.
and another picture shows how it looks after remove the peel ply.

Now i started with machining the sockets for the bell crank.
On the first pictures you see the blank. Cutted of Mirage spar .
Then the first machining.
